An ambulance rushes Capt. McCafferty to the hospital, where she's diagnosed with a stroke that has left her left side temporarily paralyzed. Despite the urging of ex-husband Louis (Robin Thomas) to do otherwise, Kate is eager to get back to work by any means necessary, including risky surgery. Meanwhile, the inspectors investigate the shooting death of a woman who was murdered after joining an Internet dating service; and Magda insists that Jinny share her problems with a therapist. While Raina takes time off to care for Kate, the investigators try to determine whether two dead teens had a suicide pact. Part 1 of two. Magda fears she is pregnant with Jonah's child, while Jinny's unexpectedly confronted with the possibility of Jack (Dean Cain) moving away to Tucson. Later, both women join C.D., Nate and Raina in the search for three armed escaped convicts, a manhunt that's made more difficult by the fact they have a stickler for the rules as their new captain.
