Question: I am loving Raising Hope, but I'm wondering if there will be any back story on Virginia's and Bert's families, other than Maw Maw, of course. Have you heard if they have parents and siblings? I think there has been mention of other relatives who want Maw Maw's house, but do you know if we will get to meet them? I think it would be a hoot to see the rest of the families on both sides! — Ginni

Fall TV Report Card: How Is the New Class Doing?

Hawaii Five-0, Nikita

Despite a relatively lackluster development season, a few shows have struck a chord with audiences: CBS' Hawaii Five-0 has dominated on Monday nights and the CW's Nikita has proven that the network can launch more than shows for young women. Boardwalk Empire's record premiere bodes well for HBO, which already has a hit in its stable with True Blood. On the flip side, Lone Star's early cancellation shocked critics, if not the general viewing public. No such uproar greeted the axings of My Generation, Outlaw and The Whole Truth. For now, everything else seems to be treading water. Here's how we see fall TV's freshman class thus far... read more

13 Bubble Shows — Which Will Survive?

Joshua Jackson and Anna Torv

Let's raise a glass (of something bubbly perhaps) to TV shows gone too soon: Here's to Arrested Development, Pushing Daisies, Moonlight, Freaks and Geeks, Veronica Mars, My So Called Life... we hardly knew ye. Here we are, just six weeks into the fall season, and we already have two more names to add to that list. (R.I.P., Lone Star and My Generation.) Which shows will be next? These 13 are in the most danger, due to low ratings, poor performances among younger viewers and other typical bad signs. Is your favorite show on the list?

Ask Matt: On Modern TV Families, Community, Big Bang, LUX and More!

The Middle

Send questions to askmatt@tvguidemagazine.com and follow me on Twitter!

Question: My current favorite show on TV is Modern Family. How could anyone not love that show? My other favorite show is Friday Night Lights. How it has never been a huge hit baffles me. Both are such refreshing, positive shows about everyday families. There are no other shows that portray families in such a realistic way. Instead of amoral teenagers who have little to no parental influence or just overly dramatic dysfunctional families, these shows celebrate the best of what families are: They fight with and for their each other, but it is because ...

Ratings: Modern Family Sets a Record as New Shows Falter

Modern Family

Modern Family's recent Emmy win gave the show a boost: The ABC comedy drew its highest rating ever on a night when several new shows failed to get much attention.

Family's Season 2 premiere drew 12.6 million viewers and was the night's highest-rated show among adults 18 to 49, according to overnight Nielsen estimates. That demo rating was also a 19 percent improvement over the show's debut last fall.

Before Family, ABC's new comedy Better with You drew 8 million viewers and The Middle pulled in 8.8 million viewers... read more
