November 13, 2006: Who's Lina Warbler? Season 1, Episode 8

For our first jaunt into the blogging world of The Class, let's play a little game. It's called, "Where they were, where they are now, and what I think" or WTWWTANAWIT for short. Sorry, it's a work in progress. Seriously though, since we're jumping in the middle, we'll do a quick recap. And then I'll tell you where I'm at, so you can get a feel where I'm coming from. Where they were: Ethan Hass ( Jason Ritter)and Kat Warbler ( Lizzy Caplan) have become good buddies. They hang together a lot, and you just know sooner or later they are going to kiss. But right now, she likes pushing him to his limit. Where they are now: Kat apparently likes pictures of body parts that are unattached, or simply gross. She shows Richie a picture of a buttock which he rightfully points out "you rarely see them out alone." Ethan finally told his date that he wasn't Dan Slutsky. And he still thought he'd get to keep her! Ha. What I think: Ethan is growing on me. I didn't liked the character at the start, but since the ice cream tasting, he's getting more and more tolerable every week. There's something about Kat, though. She's a bad-ass, but seems like she might have this delicate side, too. Okay, except for the picture of the severed tongue. She's hot, in a kick- your-ass kind of way. Where they were: Richie Velch ( Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and Lina Warbler ( Heather Goldenhersh)... and Fern Velch ( Sara Gilbert) have formed quite a little triangle here, don't you think? Richie runs Lina over, forcing her to be perched in a wheelchair for the entire series so far. But she still wants to date him. Lina thinks he's the greatest. Richie thinks she's awesome. Richie hates his wife, whom Lina doesn't know about. Where they are now: Lina accidentally says "Love you" at the end of a conversation she has with Richie. She calls him back, and Richie says it back. So Richie decides it's time to leave his wife. He goes home to tell Fern it's over, and she's not there. Turns out she opened his mail and must have gotten Lina's address from the insurance form. And she's now presenting Lina a get-well plant as "Richie's wife." What I think: Uh-oh. I love this story line. Lina is just so cute and, frankly, who doesn't enjoy the lovesick puppy that Richie is around her? Lina is the sweetest little dork, and she and the biggest lying dork make a great couple. Now she knows, though, and she said earlier that lying wasn't acceptable. Then again, she did get run over by the guy and forgave him for that. Richie, if you hurt our Lina, so help me.... Where they were: Duncan Carmello ( Jon Bernthal) is working at the house of his high school sweetheart, Nicole Allen ( Andrea Anders). He's in love with her, so he'll do anything to stay around her. But she's married to famous football player Yonk Allen ( David Keith). They've had some intimate moments despite this fact. Where they are now: While talking about Richie's whole having-a-wife thing, I think Nicole actually said that she loves Duncan. Duncan is still trying to persuade her to leave Yonk and be with him, and who can blame him. What I think: Despite the fact that he lives with his mom and plays in a band that thinks they rock out by starting their set with a ballad, Duncan's kind of cool. Nicole, um - she's just smokin' hot. Who wouldn't want her? Yonk is going to crush Duncan if he ever finds out that he wants Nicole. Where they were: Kyle Lendo ( Sean Maguire) and his boyfriend get along swimmingly with Perry ( Sam Harris) but not with his dim-witted wife Holly ( Lucy Punch). She seems to be the only one under the impression that Perry isn't gay, despite the fact that he drools over Kyle's boyfriend. Holly and Perry named their daughter Oprah. Where they are now: Holly and Perry threw a birthday party for little Oprah, but Perry conveniently forgot to confirm "The Puppet People." So he busts out his sock and a show tune disguised as a birthday song and does a puppet show himself. What I think: I can still picture the scene from a few weeks ago in which Holly got pummeled by a flying stop sign. Loved it! I listened to Sam Harris' debut album from the mid-'80s the other day. That's right, I own a Sam Harris record. All right, there it is. Eight episodes wrapped up in one blog. Next week we'll just talk about one. So feel free to leave a comment and let me know what you think of the show and the characters. Until next week, friends. show less
