Ian Buchanan on B&B: The Doctor Is Back In

Ian Buchanan and Hunter Tylo by Brian Lowe/jpistudios.com

Remember that wild '90s plot on CBS' The Bold and the Beautiful when famed psychiatrist James Warwick shockingly revealed he was a virgin and the gorgeous Taylor deflowered him in the rubble of a massive earthquake? "Well, I'm about to repay the favor," Ian Buchanan says. The actor returns to his Emmy-winning role as Warwick on Jan. 28 for a short-term stint that has him helping the troubled Taylor (played by Hunter Tylo)."By the time I arrive, she's hitting the sauce pretty bad and having hallucinations," reports Buchanan, who hopes a cure doesn't come too quickly, what with the writers' strike crippling prime time. "I feel like changing the dialogue to say, 'Gee, Taylor's in worse shape than I thought. This could take me a year.'" — Michael Logan read more

Michael Logan's Worst of 2007

Drake Hogestyn by Chris Haston/NBC

I knew we were in for a bumpy ride when All My Children started the year by murdering Dixie — the show's heart and soul — with a plate of poisoned pancakes. But hey, that meant more airtime for Zarf, a rude, suffocatingly hammy, penis-flashing transgender rock star who fell in love with Pine Valley's saintly lesbian Bianca. Appropriately, fans on the Internet named the couple "Barf." In a pathetic attempt to boost ratings, Days of our Lives pretended to kill its most popular male character, John, played by Drake Hogestyn. Even the cast was fooled. But with the Nielsens staying flat, Hogestyn is now back at work and we're left to wonder: How the hell can we ever invest in Days again?General Hospital viewers had a fit and threatened to stop watching when heartthrob Jax was held hostage and forced into sex by a loony Russian chick. Meanwhile, they didn't seem to mind when a Port Charles strangler killed three women.Things that made me cringe: Constantine Maroulis on The Bold ... read more

Michael Logan's Best of 2007: Supersized Edition!

Catherine Hickland by Donna Svennevik/ABC; Melody Thomas Scott courtesy CBS; Jon Hensley courtesy CBS

Best Soap: One Life to LiveIt started the year utterly crappy thanks to head writer Dena Higley, but after Erika Slezak (our hero!) royally blasted Higley on the Web, ABC fired the scribe and promoted wonder boy Ron Carlivati. Like magic, the show instantly regained its heart, its thrills, its smarts. The cast is a dream, especially Slezak, whose Viki found heaven in a Texas diner, Catherine Hickland as crazy (or is she?) Lindsay and Tuc Watkins as that gold-digging man-whore David. Once again, we're loving Life!Best Actress: The Young and the Restless' Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki)As the distraught mama faced with divorce and a comatose daughter, she pulled out all the stops, then pulled out a few more we never knew existed. This was deep, blistering work. Plus the lady gets extra points for acting sans makeup on high-def TV!Best Actor: As the World Turns' Jon Hensley (Holden)His quiet, no-baloney performance was a relief in a year of so much male showboating. Whether playing Holden'... read more

Hunter Tylo Sues Son's Therapist for Wrongful Death

Hunter Tylo by Cliff Lipson/CBS

The Bold and the Beautiful's Hunter Tylo has changed the malpractice lawsuit she planned to file against the therapist who treated her son Michael Jr. to a wrongful-death claim, Us reports. Tylo is accusing Nevada-based social worker Shanna Downing of both misdiagnosing 19-year-old Michael Jr.'s seizure disorder as "stress-related" and for implanting "false memories." (The latter claim, one expert tells the weekly, could be hard to prove.)On Oct. 18, Michael Jr. drowned in a pool following an apparent seizure. — Matt Webb Mitovich read more

Black and Beautiful, At Long Last

courtesy Mykel Shannon Jenkins

Mykel Shannon Jenkins is the first black leading man to land a contract with The Bold and the Beautiful in the show's 20-year history — and he earned this job the old-fashioned way. Jenkins won Season 1 of SOAPnet's I Wanna Be a Soap Star but got a snotty reception when he took his prize, a short-term cop role on General Hospital. "How I got the part made a lot of the cast unwilling to respect me," he says. Their loss. Jenkins went on to tackle guest spots on CSI, Saving Grace and Ugly Betty (where he was fantastic as Tavares, the faux-gay fashion designer who had a tryst with Amanda). On B&B he'll play hero detective Charlie Baker and be thrust into a major whodunit. Which beauty will he eventually romance? Jenkins isn't fussy. "Have you seen the ladies on this show?" he says. "There's one hell of a selection!" — Reporting by Michael Logan read more

November Sweeps Teases for World Turns and More!

Natalia Livingston and Tyler Christopher by Ron Tom/ABC

As the World Turns: And Baby Makes Five Paul (Roger Howarth) and Rosanna (Cady McClain) get hitched, but Paul may have impregnated Craig's gal Meg. Naturally, somebody will mess with the paternity test. Holden and Lily head for divorce court. Nutty moms Barbara and Iris team up for villainy. General Hospital: Murder at the Ball Nikolas (Tyler Christopher) throws a black-and-white ball climaxing in the death of a top character. The story rewinds 11 hours, then each episode moves forward one hour — à la 24 — to reveal what really happened. Who's going bye-bye? There's much buzz that it's Nik's ex-wife Emily (Emmy winner Natalia Livingston), but ABC is strictly mum. One Life to Live: What a Drag Baby snatcher Marcie (Kathy Brier) evades the law via an offbeat underground railroad that finds her performing with drag queens in Georgia and getting help from a Katrina family in New Orleans. Plus, Tuc Watkins, briefly sprung from his gay-neighbor gig on Desperate Housewives, ... read more

B&B's Hunter Tylo Loses Son in Tragedy

Hunter Tylo by Cliff Lipson/CBS

The Bold and the Beautiful vet Hunter Tylo's 19-year-old son, Mickey, has died, having drowned at the family's home in Henderson, Nevada. "It was accidental," officer specialist Lisa Jackson of the Clark County coroner's office tells TV Guide. "It was drowning due to a seizure disorder."Police responded to a call regarding a deceased man at 10:18 pm Thursday, and Tylo was pronounced dead at 11:55. "That was when he was pronounced dead," explains Jackson, "not when he actually died."Mickey is Tylo's eldest child by husband Michael. She also has a son named Christopher, 27 (from a previous relationship) and two daughters, Izabella and Katya. — Reporting by N.F. Mendoza read more

Darlene Conley Spoils B&B from the Great Beyond

Darlene Conley by Robert Voets/CBS, Ronn Moss by Cliff Lipson/CBS

If you believe in this stuff — and I do — the late Darlene Conley will come through in a psychic reading on WE's John Edward Cross Country. It happens Oct. 27 when Edward conducts a session with Ronn Moss, Conley's longtime costar on CBS' The Bold and the Beautiful (he plays Ridge; she was the flamboyant Sally). The actress, who died of cancer last January, was close pals with Moss and, in the episode, he talks about getting the call that she was near death and praying she'd wait until he could see her one last time. "And she did," Moss tells Edward. "I walked in and about four minutes later, after I was with her alone, she died in my arms. I felt her pass through me. It was an amazing feeling." A curious note: In tribute to Conley, B&B has kept Sally alive off screen but, in the reading with Edward, Conley claims that'll change and lead to a great story line. A B&B rep tells me Sally will be seen Nov. 1 in flashbacks that coincide with a nifty plot twist, but says... read more

Bold Move: Papa Logan Returns with a Bang

The Bold and the Beautiful courtesy of Cliff Lipson/CBS

He was a prime suspect in the famous "Who Shot J.R.?" plot on Dallas. Now Patrick Duffy is returning to CBS' The Bold and the Beautiful for another big shooting. His character, gadabout dad Stephen Logan, will be paged back to town in November by his daughter Donna (Jennifer Gareis). "The Logan clan is being horribly abused by Stephanie Forrester [Susan Flannery] and Donna wants her father to stir the pot," says exec producer Brad Bell. Stephen has no idea that his eldest daughter, Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang), was recently raped or that sicko Stephanie had a hand in it. So expect fireworks. "For years this family has been ashamed to be Logans," Bell notes. "Now they're going to rise up proudly and combat this oppressive woman." Can we safely assume it's Steph who takes the bullet? Bell is mum except to say, "It's a shocker." — Reporting by Michael Logan read more

Soap Opera Vet Sean Kanan Nabbed for Second DUI

Sean Kanan by John Sciulli/WireImage.com

Not 24 hours after news of General Hospital starlet Kirsten Storms' own DUI arrest broke, TMZ is reporting that daytime-TV journeyman and onetime Karate Kid nemesis Sean Kanan was busted on August 18 by the LAPD, on suspicion of driving under the influence. Kanan, whose soap resume includes turns as The Bold and the Beautiful's Deacon Sharpe and GH's alcoholic A.J. Quartermaine, posted $30,000 bail after being charged with two counts, including driving with a blood alcohol level of .08-plus. Due back in court on Monday, he faces a max of one year in jail and a $1,000 fine, per count. This being Kanan's second DUI offense (the first came in '98), it carries a minimum jail stint of 96 hours. A spokesperson for Kanan had no comment to TMZ. read more

Premise: The high-glam soap about L.A.'s fashionable and fertile Forrester clan was designed as a sister soap to the popular 'The Young and the Restless,' and quickly won ratings and global fans with cast crossovers, exotic remotes, glossy runaway shows and fast-paced storylines about beautiful people behaving badly. In 2004, the show introduced a new family, the Marones, and recruited several nighttime alums to beef up the cast. And to create a little chaos.
