Biggest Loser: Families Episode Recap: Week 4 Season 4, Episode 5

In part one of this week’s two-fold episode, the contestants battled to lose weight while Jillian battled to not lose her mind. What put her over the edge and what was this week’s challenge? Keep reading to find out.

After Yellow fell below the line and decided that Jerry would be the one to go home, Jillian was left with an all female team comprised of Colleen, Amy and Shellay and Michelle and Renee. Colleen knew she’d now have the tough task of focusing on herself, something she hadn’t done in a long time. Bob’s team knew they’d have to work their butt off since you never know what’s going to happen on the ranch. And while everyone seems to be growing stronger, Vicky is feeling restricted by her husband Brady and her extensive injuries. She tells Bob that her hubs gets frustrated and even rude when she needs to stay in the gym longer but Bob assures her that she needs to take care of herself. Luckily when Vicky expresses this concern to Brady, he understands.

The Red team, Amy and Phil, previously won the prize of a 24 hour visit home and this week got to redeem it. What a trip it was. When they walked through the door, their kids were at first shocked and then hysterical. It was quite a sweet moment. Amy and Phil took them all on a hike for the start of their new, healthier lives together. The boys were proud of their parents and Phil was excited about the notion of not only changing his life and witnessing his wife’s change, but impacting their children’s lives so positively.

Amy and Shellay also cashed in on their week one prize, 24 hours alone with Jillian. Of course it was spent in the gym. Shellay is off to a weak start and is giving up on her workouts. Jillian, although trying, knows patience isn’t her thing and lays down the law. “If Shellay puts her hands on the treadmill one more time I’m going to rip Amy’s arms off and beat Shellay over the head with them.” Gotta love Jillian. Soon after, Shellay breaks down as Jillian calls her out for having a façade of oblivion. She tells her to stop selling herself short and that she has to give more to have more. This was Shellay’s light bulb moment.

The Universal back lot is the backdrop for this week’s challenge. Hanging in a massive tank of water, each contestant had to hold onto handlebars as long as possible while water rushed out. The reward for this challenge of endurance was a three day VIP pass to Universal Studios, including airfare, as well as a VIP theme park experience. All the parents knew their kiddies would love this one. At first the teams held strong but at around the forty minute mark they started dropping. At ninety minutes, each person could only hang with one arm causing even more of them to drop. It gets down to Brown vs. Amy with Vicky prevailing and Amy coming in a close second. She’s devastated but proud of the strength she showed. Vicky, as the winner, got to choose another team to share in the prize and they gave it to the deserving Amy and Shellay.

Fun tip of the night. Did you know that you can burn three hundred calories watching TV if you do jumping jacks during the commercial breaks? Good to know!

Brown and Purple received their boxes from home but the happy times quickly ended when were sent back to the gym. Once again, Shellay won’t let go of the freakin’ treadmill and Jillian is furious between that and the fact that her team has only done twenty-five minutes of exercise on their own when they were told to do ninety. This moment reminded me of how much I love Jillian. She tells her team that she can’t wait until season seven when she gets someone who cares, ouch, and that “of course you have homework, it’s a weight loss show.” When Amy responds with laughter she gets the boot out of the gym and we’re left hanging.

Tomorrow is part two and it’s a crucial weigh-in where another team will be forced to eliminate one of their own. Who will it be? And where was Bob tonight?
