In the third-season premiere, Cathy receives some encouraging medical news; Sean encourages Angela's interest in her African heritage; and Adam turns to prayer as a way of dealing with his mother's cancer.
Cathy goes all out to impress the birth parents of the child she seeks to adopt; Joy wants Paul to go before a live audience and relate his near-death episode, while Jessie pushes Adam to more fully embrace his relationship with God.
Cathy makes things right with Dave and Maxine, and has a run-in with Joy concerning Paul. Meanwhile, Sean realizes that there are two distinct sides to his relationship with Giselle and Tim; and Paul is surprised to discover something entirely new about Cathy.
Cathy tries scuba diving in an effort to maximize the fun on her Puerto Rico vacation; Paul, reeling from the news about Joy, tries to keep it together during a speaking engagement. Later, Sean decides to take a respite from dating after undergoing yet another breakup.
