A four-hour adaptation of the John Jakes saga, which follows Frenchman Phillipe Charboneau from his search for his father in 1771 England to his employment in Boston with the publisher of a patriotic newsletter. This was the first of three lavish historical miniseries based on Jakes' fictional Kent clan (it was followed by `The Rebels' and `The Seekers').
