The Bad News Bears

1979, TV Show

Based on the movie series about a bumbling young baseball team, this sitcom didn't score with viewers. It follows the exploits---and lack of same---of a former minor-league player who takes a coaching job to avoid prison and isn't always convinced that he made the right call, considering his team consists of problem students who always seem to be throwing him a curveball.

Grizzled former professional baseball player Morris Buttermaker (Billy Bob Thornton) is recruited by a strait-laced lawyer (Marcia Gay Harden) to coach the Bears, a woefully inept Little League team. He's got to find a way to drive this gang of 12 misfits to a championship against their hated rivals: the Yankees and their overbearing coach (Greg Kinnear). From the director that brought you School of Rock working with the writing team behind Bad Santa comes a hilarious 2005 homage to an irreverent 1976 comedy: Bad News Bears.
