The Bachelorette Episode Recap: Week 2 Season 8, Episode 2

It's Week 2 of The Bachelorette and for the first time, we see a local news report about the filming of the show. Apparently this is a big deal for Charlotte, N.C.

Emily gets together with some girlfriends to tell them about her first night. Must be nice to be allowed to chat with friends, rather than have the usual solitary confinement our Bachelors and Bachelorettes experience. At the house, Chris announces the first one-on-one date, which goes to Ryan. But rather than the glamorous or adventurous dates viewers are used to, Emily takes Ryan home to bake cookies for her daughter's soccer team. Ryan seems right at home with the apron on and the two seem to be effortless together. Once the cookies are done, they're off to the soccer field where Ryan waits in the car as Emily brings the kids the goodies. Ryan seems in awe of watching Em in her element.

But the date isn't all comfy clothes and baking cookies. At night, the pair gets dolled up. (Love Ryan's silvery suit!) The Charlotte fandom is even waiting outside the restaurant for their arrival. Once inside, Emily doesn't waste much time before asking Ryan about his exes. He's had two serious relationships, he says. They then delve deep into how to pursue someone and how Emily's new man will eventually fit into Ricki's life. Ryan lays it on by telling Emily how attractive she was making cookies and that he likes her already. Clearly, he gets the rose. Dinner is capped off with dancing to a live performance from Emily's favorite band, Gloriana. But no kisses just yet!

The group date card arrives at the house and it's for Alejandro, Nate, Alessandro, Tony, Michael, John, Jef, Charlie, Kyle, Chris, Aaron, Stevie and Kalon. The men meet her at a theatre, where they're going to perform and raise money for the Ricky Hendricks Center for Intensive Care. Of course, the guys aren't performing alone: They're joined by Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog. The guys are split into groups and Charlie, who had a severe accident resulting in a brain injury, is terrified about speaking in public. He talks to Emily about his insecurities with speaking and she's more than understanding.

Next thing we know, the theatre has a packed house. Even Ricki and Emily's mom are in the audience. The opening number is a little dance with Miss Piggy, followed by Kyle and John's stand-up with Fonzie the Bear. Next, Miss Piggy invites Charlie, Jeff and Aaron up on stage where she asks some very hard-hitting questions, including how they'd propose or how to impress a woman. They all nail it. Finally, Emily does a bit with Kermie on stage and for a shy gal, Emily's act is adorable. Ricki even gets to come on stage and joins Emily, Kermit and Miss Piggy to sing "Rainbow Connection." The guys melt watching them.

After the show, the group goes for drinks where they fawn over Emily and fight for her time. But Emily wonders if one guy, Jef, actually likes her. She tells him she feels awkward around him because she doesn't know if he's into her, but he reassures her that he is. From there, the men go back and forth interrupting each other's time with our girl, which naturally leads to bickering between Stevie and Kalon. Ultimately, Jef gets the rose, which personally seems like an odd choice to me. Agree?

Joe gets the last solo date of the week and they venture (in a private jet) to Emily's hometown of West Virginia. But this is no backwoods date. They end up at a gorgeous hotel and spa where they first go for a swim and then go to a nice dinner. Emily says she likes Joe, but isn't sure she feels sparks. They test their connection with the hotel's "love clock" where they each write down a note to put into a clock. (The point? Who knows?) While she thinks Joe's note is incredibly sweet, Emily knows he's not the one. Emily tears up as she tells him she's not going to give him the rose. If Emily is having this much trouble dumping someone in Week 2, girl is in trouble.

Time for the cocktail party. Emily immediately connects with Arie during their alone time, especially when he tells her he previously dated someone with two kids. Later, the guys get peeved when Emily spends time with Ryan, who already has a rose. Tony tries to step in, but instead gets stuck awkwardly watching Ryan gives Emily a note, which she proceeds to read aloud. What seems like an eternity later, Emily finishes Ryan's novel and sits down with Tony who reveals he too has a child. Next, Kalon takes time with Emily and the guys watch from afar. They are not his biggest fan.

The rose ceremony begins and Emily hands out her roses to Kalon, Arie, Michael, Nate, Sean, Chris, Doug, Travis, Tony, John, Alessandro, Charlie, Alejandro and Stevie. So Aaron and his hipster glasses as well as Kyle are going home.

Next week we get some Dolly Parton and an angry Emily. Get excited!
