The Bachelorette Episode Recap: The Final Rose Season 7, Episode 11

On this week's finale of The Bachelorette, Ashley handed out her final rose. It's hard to believe that in the last few weeks we've seen her fall for the villainous Bentley, be humiliated by a disingenuous roast, and see two men leave on their own accord. But it's all worth it, Ashley says, as she's found the man she wants to marry.

Ashley says she's so excited to get engaged in the South Pacific and thinks Fiji is the perfect place to do it. She meets her family and tells them a little about J.P. and Ben before it's time to get the family introductions started.  J.P. arrives first and he tells them how successful it was when Ashley met his family in New York, but the joy is short-lived when Ashley's sister Chrystie pelts the couple with tough questions. After not liking both J.P. and Ashley's answer to one of them, Chrystie writes J.P. off and tells Ashley, "I don't think he's the one ... I think you're too much for him." Ashley cries and says she's crushed by her sister's opinion.

Chrystie continues her storm of skepticism by telling J.P. she doesn't see the two together. "At first glance and seeing you together, I don't see it," she says. He says he wants her and the family to know he's 100 percent in love with Ashley, but Chrystie also questions what he wants with her "much younger" sister. J.P. is stunned as Chrystie says she expected to see more of a connection. "So you're saying if I proposed you wouldn't be happy about it?" he asks.

When it's Ben's turn to meet the family, Ashley acts extra goofy around him, but I'm not sure it's because of Ben or because she's trying to prove something to her sister. It's time for Chrystie to interrogate Ben and she asks if Ashley is the woman he wants to be with.  Ben says he's in love with Ashley and is ready to propose. Chrystie is definitely on Team Ben.

Ashley and Ben have their final date and take a breathtaking helicopter ride. They land by a mud bath where they slather sludge all over each other. Later that night, the two are in a hotel room, drinking wine, when Ben finally lets his ultimate guard down to say how he's feeling. "There have been multiple moments where I wanted to tell you that I'm in love with you and I never expected this -- ever." Ashley kisses him.

J.P. arrives the following day for his date and they get right into talking about the somewhat disastrous family date. "I don't understand how she could judge us," he says." My biggest concern was that you would feel differently about us because of what your sister thinks she saw." It's a bit tense, but J.P. ultimately tells her, "We've been talking about taking a leap of faith and I told your entire family I am madly in love with you and I've been dying to tell you." They take a walk on the beach and share a make-out session. Back at the hotel he gives her a little scrapbook with her favorite picture of the two of them and then say their final goodbyes before the final ceremony.

Both men pick out an engagement ring and take separate sea planes to Ashley's location. Ben is the first to arrive (a bad sign). He talks a bit before getting down on one knee and asking Ashley to marry him. She's quiet, pulls him up, and then says, "I'm sorry" before he walks away. Ben is clearly angry and when Ashley tries to tell him how great of a guy he is he says, "I don't need you to sugar coat this."

J.P. steps off the plane and it couldn't be more obvious what Ashley is about to do. She smiles, they kiss, and then J.P. starts by saying, "My biggest fear is falling in love with you and having my heart broken again ... but I also know that in order to overcome that fear I have to take a leap of faith and that's exactly what this is. All the time we've spent together has been the happiest time in my life. I am madly in love with you, I love everything about you." Ashley reciprocates by saying, "Today is the reason I went through all the good times and all the bad times and I wanted to tell you how much I loved you for so long now. I don't want to be with anyone else but you forever." J.P. gets down on one knee and proposes and Ashley says, "Yes!"

The "After the Final Rose" ceremony airs immediately following the finale and Ben (with a much straighter coif) has to relive his rejection. "That was a long flight home," he admits to Chris Harrison. Soon Ashley comes out, with her ring in tow, and Ben gets a chance to ask her some questions, such as when she made her decision and if he could've done anything differently. Ashley says she simply followed her heart and there was nothing to change that.

The time finally arrives for J.P. and Ashley to be reunited — and the passion is still alive. "She's the best thing that ever happened to me," J.P. tells Chris. Chrystie also apologizes to J.P. for being so hard on him and J.P. says it's water under the bridge. The two watch their engagement and afterward announce that Ashley will be joining J.P. in New York shortly. They're excited to be out in the open and live their relationship in the real world.
