The Bachelorette Episode Recap: Week 1 Season 7, Episode 1

Welcome back Bachelorette fans! Can you believe it's been almost a year since Ali and Roberto ended their journey with an engagement? Let's hope that streak continues with our latest cycle's star, Ashley Hebert.

The episode begins with a look back at Ashley and Brad's relationship on The Bachelor. The reel highlights the many times Ashley doubted their connection, which ultimately lead to her dismissal. This time around the dentist says she's going to do it right, with no regrets.

Let's meet some of the guys vying for Ashley's attention! Ryan started his own company a few years ago and is now successful, but looking for the girl to "light up his soul brighter than the sun." Yes, that's the phrase he actually used. JP is 34, lives in NYC and is in construction management and real estate. He also likes onions, purely based on his perusing the veggies at the Union Square farmer's market. Ames is also representing New York City and is Superman. He's insanely smart and has run 39 marathons and several ultra marathons. Benjamin is a wine maker and grew up in Sonoma Calif. He comes from a good family, but has been guarded since his dad died. He also hopes that the Bachelorette is a brunette. Bentley, 28, is from Salt Lake City and has a daughter named Cozy. He's a bit cocky and also hopes the Bachelorette is Emily. I wonder how that will play out later on. West is our sad story of the season. He was married to his love Sarah, but after 7 years together she passed away from a seizure. It's heartbreaking.

Ashley arrives to meet Chris Harrison and is already doubting herself when she admits she's scared the guys watched last season and will be disappointed it's her. She also tells Chris that she heard one of the men, Bentley, isn't coming on the show with good intentions (i.e. romance). Apparently Bentley is coming on to promote his job and a past contestant (Hmm, Michelle Money lives in Salt Lake) is friends with his ex and that contestant alerted Ashley. But she says she'll give him the benefit of the doubt — and hopes he isn't too good-looking.

One-by-one, the guys step out of the limo where they do their best to catch Ashley's attention. For Mickey, that's going in for a kiss, but for Tim, it's being speechless and awkward. Jeff arrives with a  creepy mask on and explains that he wants to take his face out of the equation so she can learn what's inside. Wait, is this the failed reality show Mr. Personality?

Some of the guys have a good sense of humor. Mike says it's the first time he's actually excited to see the dentist, and Brian, who says he's a big fan of The Bachelor and takes some pictures of them, asks her if later on she'll take a photo of him with Chris Harrison.

During the cocktail party, Matt actually calls his mom so that she and Ashley can have a little chat. She offers some motherly advice and then embarrasses the two of them by saying, "when you choose to forgo the individual suites don't forget your moms are watching and use protection."

One of the guys, Tim, isn't giving the best impression during the party. He's so drunk that he actually passes out. Ashley tries to wake him, but to no avail so she asks a few guys to help her have him leave. I know the rose ceremony takes hours to complete that first night, with lots of alcohol being consumed, but way to totally blow your chances buddy.

Ashley has her time with Bentley and is surprised about the speculation. "He seems to be everything I'm looking for," she says to the camera. But little does she know her initial instincts may prove right. After Ashley gives the first impression rose to Ryan — she loves his energy and ambition —Bentley says he's surprised he didn't get the rose even though he's not that attracted to Ashley, but is competitive and wants to win. Harsh.

What did you think of the premiere? Which guys are already standing out?

At the very first rose ceremony, Ashley hands out roses to Jeff, Constantine, Ben F, Lucas, Stephen, Matt, Nick, Chris, Ryan M, Blake, Mickey, Ben C, West, William, J.P., Ames and Bentley.
