The Bachelor Episode Recap: "After the Final Rose, Part 2" Season 13, Episode 10

Welcome to the recap of The Bachelor: After the Final Rose. Part Two. Lord, when will it end? This is an extra hour of The Bachelor, which comes after last night's extra hour, in which Jason dumped Melissa, the woman he proposed to in the last episode of the show, and started something up with Molly, the woman he dumped in the last episode... read more

The Bachelor Episode Recap: March 2, 2009 Season 13, Episode 9

In The Bachelor's season finale, Jason introduces his family to the two remaining women, Molly and Melissa, and proposes to one of them. Then something crazy happens.

This week's episode unfolds against the backdrop of Internet claims about the crazy thing. I won't elaborate yet in case you've been protecting yourself from spoilers. Once again, I am joined in this recap by my lovely fiancée, who will offer her adorable and often intemperate remarks.

The episode starts with Jason reuniting with his 3-year-old son, Ty, on a New Zealand beach. Ty is growing up fast and doing all kinds of grown-up things: playing tackle football, golfing, and helping his father select his future stepmom. He meets Melissa, a sales representative in normal life, who sells herself to Ty by telling some pretty good little kid jokes. Jason produces a lamb for Ty and Melissa alike — which turns out to be the highlight of the entire season.

The Bachelor Episode Recap: February 23, 2009 Season 13, Episode 8

I wasn't sure whether to recap this week's women-tell-all episode, because it had kind of a potluck feel: Taking a break from the drama unfolding between Jason, Molly, and Melissa, the show looked back on some past seasons and the unbelievable (read: not unbelievable) antics that haven't made it into this arc's regular episodes. read more

The Bachelor Episode Recap: February 16, 2009 Season 13, Episode 7

In this episode of The Bachelor, the last one before the finale in two weeks, Jason and the three remaining contestants travel to New Zealand. Raising the stakes, somewhat, Jason has the option of inviting each woman to stay with him in a "fantasy suite." As always, I'll be recapping the episode with the help of my lovely fiancé, who shares my opinion that Melissa has this whole thing in the bag — and also my disappointment that we won't see the much-promoted return of Deanna Pappas, who broke Jason's heart on The Bachelorette, until the finale.

The Bachelor Episode Recap: February 9, 2009 Season 13, Episode 6

In this edition of The Bachelor, Jason visits the hometown of the final four contestants to meet their families — but he can only hand out three roses. The Bachelor Season 13, Episode 5

Jason invites the five remaining bachelorettes home to Seattle. He spends an evening on a houseboat with one, takes another on a seaplane ride (and a romantic fondue dinner), and the other three on a ferry ride. Some also spend an afternoon spilling secrets in a radio interview, and Jason gets marriage pointers from the station's morning DJs, married couple Jackie and Bender. At the rose ceremony, one is sent home while the final four prepare to take Jason to their hometowns. read more

The Bachelor Season 13, Episode 4

The nine remaining bachelorettes vie in a singing contest for a one-on-one date with Jason, who also accompanies six of the contestants to the set of "General Hospital," where they meet cast members Bradford Anderson and Kirsten Storms (and one earns a rose). And he takes two others, clad in evening gowns and riding in a Bentley, for a romantic night of dining and dancing. One gets a rose; the other doesn't, and three others turn into pumpkins at the rose ceremony. read more

The Bachelor Season 13, Episode 3

Twelve candidates remain, 10 of whom get dates with Jason. For eight, it's a group visit to the Keep-a-Breast Foundation, and two others get one-on-one dates. (One, a single mom, takes her child along on a trip to Legoland; for the other, it's a helicopter ride over the Hoover Dam and a private Kate Voegele concert). One of the dates ends badly for a bachelorette, while another runs out at the very dishy rose ceremony. Eventually, the field is reduced to nine. read more

The Bachelor Season 13, Episode 2

Jason and the 15 survivors of the opening cocktail party enjoy a pool party at the mansion before he escorts one to the Walt Disney Concert Hall for a private performance by Robin Thicke (and the season's first kiss). Jason escorts another bachelorette to Malibu Beach, a third on a ride in a blimp, and eight others to a Hollywood boutique and another pool party (this one above Sunset Strip) before one contestant eliminates herself and two others are sent packing at the rose ceremony. read more

The Bachelor Season 13, Episode 1

Single dad Jason Mesnick, spurned by DeAnna Pappas in the 2008 edition of "The Bachelorette," does the choosing this time as he searches for a mate from among 25 young women in the dating contest's 13th edition. In the opener, Jason greets them at the L.A. mansion where he and DeAnna first met and hosts the introductory cocktail party. In a new wrinkle, the bachelorettes get to vote for a competitor they'd like to see leave, but Jason has the final say. At evening's end, only 15 remain. read more

Premise: True love (or a TV facsimile thereof) gets the reality treatment in this long-running dating game, in which a successful bachelor romances a number of beauties. The list of possible paramours is reduced each week until he gives a final red rose to one of them. The series spun off 'The Bachelorette', a spate of rip-offs and very few lasting pairings.
