The Bachelor Episode Recap: Week 9 Season 16, Episode 9

It's fantasy date week on The Bachelor, which means lots of "love," lots of hot tubs and lots of alone-time for Ben and his ladies.

First, Ben flies to Switzerland, where he reflects on his time with the remaining women: Nicki, the dark horse, laid-back Lindzi and Courtney, the trash-talking model. As Ben ponders the final two weeks, he concludes that he's ready to take the next step in life.

Nicki has the first fantasy date with Ben in Interlaken. A helicopter picks them up and whisks them away over the Alps. After a breathtaking ride, they arrive on a mountaintop to have a picnic. The two talk about their successful hometown date and Ben admits Nicki's dad reminded him of his own father. After a few kisses, they're off to their next destination, another mountaintop with incredible views.  Ben and Nicki have dinner in a romantic log cabin. Ben almost immediately asks Nicki how she would fit into his life, and she says she's already thought about moving to northern California to be with him. The next topic of conversation is kids: Ben says he wants four; Nicki only wants two. Soon Ben pulls out the fantasy suite card. Nicki accepts the offer, and off they go. As they sit in front of the fire, Nicki tells Ben she's confident she'd make him a very happy man — and then they head into the candlelit hot tub.

Next up is Lindzi's date and it's another adrenaline-pumping activity. Either Lindzi told the producers she's adventurous or she keeps drawing the short stick. The pair put on their helmets and start repelling down a very steep gorge. Fortunately, once they get to the bottom they can relieve their stress in the hot tub.  At dinner, Lindzi talks about her propensity to put up walls, but she says that she has realized it's OK to be vulnerable. With that sentiment, she says she's falling in love with Ben and hopes this ends in a proposal for her. Although he doesn't tell her, Ben says in his voiceover he loves Lindzi too. Then they're off to the fantasy suite.

Courtney and Ben have the final fantasy ride, as they take a train to a small village. The couple sits down for a picnic and Courtney brings up how she treated the other women. Ben gets a little flustered and calls the whole thing a "messed up situation" before ultimately deciding to discuss it later.  At dinner, Courtney brings it up again. She says she feels badly that the experience brought out the worst of her at times. Ben says the Courtney he knows is the Courtney he's falling in love with, but he has a lot of women in his life at home and needs to know she'll support him with those friendships. Courtney apologizes and says she was immature. With that, Ben feels like they can move forward. So, of course, Ben pulls out the fantasy suite card and Courtney, of course, accepts.

The show then takes a minor break and we get an update on the newest Bachelorette, Emily. She flies from Charlotte to Los Angeles where she meets up with previous Bachelorettes, Ali and Ashley. The girls get dolled up while giving Emily some important advice on her upcoming season. Ashley tells her that the first night will be about physical attraction, but to be open to everyone. Meanwhile, Ali says that everything happens for a reason and there's a reason she's back on the show. Next the three have a date at the movies where they watch Titanic in 3-D (nice promotion, ABC). The girls send Emily off with a champagne toast.

Back to our regularly scheduled program, Ben is in his hotel room when he hears a knock on the door. It's Kacie! After she calms her nerves, Kacie admits she flew all the way to Switzerland to find out why he rejected her. "For me, I felt like we were worlds apart in where we come from," Ben says. "I don't think I could've given you all the things you needed from me because that's not where I see my life going." Ben adds that ultimately, he didn't see her in the end and didn't want to drag it out for her. Kacie then lays it all on the line and tells Ben he should not choose Courtney. She gives a few reasons, Ben takes it all in, and then he walks her out.

Ben shares his feelings with host Chris Harrison and he sounds conflicted. Ben says he had no doubt about his decision until Kacie showed up. Chris asks if Ben wants Kacie at the rose ceremony, but he says no. (He's having a tough time deciding as it is, Chris!) Ben eventually heads into the rose ceremony to make the hardest elimination yet. The first rose goes to Lindzi. The second rise goes to Courtney. Ben walks Nicki out and tells her that her kindness didn't go unnoticed, but he started to have doubts. He then says goodbye and sends her crying into the limo.

Next week, it's the Women Tell All — and it's surely going to be one of the most tense and fiery of them all.

Premise: True love (or a TV facsimile thereof) gets the reality treatment in this long-running dating game, in which a successful bachelor romances a number of beauties. The list of possible paramours is reduced each week until he gives a final red rose to one of them. The series spun off 'The Bachelorette', a spate of rip-offs and very few lasting pairings.
