The Bachelor Episode Recap: Week 8 Season 16, Episode 8

On this week's episode of The Bachelor, we're heading to the girls' hometowns where Ben finally meets the ladies' families and must ultimately break one woman's heart.

Ben travels first to Ocala, Fla., where he's greeted by Lindzi on horseback. Lindzi explains that they're going to do some carriage-riding and then uses a metaphor to compare falling off horses to getting your heart broken. Lindzi is ready to get back in the saddle and be in love. After riding, the two have a chat about Lindzi's (clearly jerk-y) ex-boyfriend. She reveals that they lived together and was sure they'd get married. Ben is happy she's opening up and says she likes seeing this serious side to her.

Next, the two arrive at her parent's house and immediately they hit it off with Ben. Ben and Lindzi even learn that her parents got married in the same place the two had their first date: San Francisco City Hall. Soon Lindzi's dad suggests they carriage race and even adds that you get penalized if you don't trash-talk. Now we see where Lindzi gets her sense of humor. The parents win and Ben and Lindzi have to pull their carriage back to the house for dinner.

Lindzi tells her mom she can see a "forever" future with Ben, but her mom is worried about her getting her heart broken again. Ben then spends some alone time with each of the parents and even gets Lindzi's dad's blessing if there were to be a proposal. The rest of the night continues to be successful and Ben comments that he can see Lindzi's dad Harry as a surrogate father figure. The evening ends with Harry toasting Ben, adding that he would be honored to have Ben as a son-in-law.

Ben arrives in Clarksville, Tenn., where he's greeted at the local high school by a marching band and a baton-twirling Kacie, who runs and leaps into his arms. Kacie explains that the high school field is named after her grandfather, who, with Kacie's grandma, provided an amazing example of love and marriage. But the conversation quickly turns terrifying as Kacie prepares Ben to meet her father the probation officer who doesn't drink. (That may not bode well for Ben the wine-maker!)

The night pretty much remains tense as Ben meet the parents. Her dad talks about marriage being something he takes very seriously. Kacie's mom also explains to Ben that she's highly against living together before marriage and she expects Kacie to follow that rule. The dinner ends and a worried Kacie sends Ben on his way.

Bens meets Nicki in Fort Worth, Texas where they set out to do some cowboy boot shopping. Although their relationship has been the slowest-moving, they seems pretty comfortable as they have a blast around town. They wind up at her parents' house, and although her mom and dad are divorced, they seem to get along well. Nicki immediately tells her mom she's falling in love and is very giddy. Next she talks to her dad and admits she didn't think her feelings would reach this point. Her father is nervous for her and says he wants to protect her. They sit down for dinner and Nicki's dad says he hopes to see Ben again and that they have his total support. Before the night ends, Nicki steals Ben away and tells him that she's in love with him.

It's time for the final hometown date with Courtney's family in Scottsdale, Ariz. It seems we see a different side of Courtney as she talks about not being proud of the way she acted towards the girls. She even seems pretty believable when talking about how much she likes Ben. While her mom Sherry isn't sold at first, she too starts to see that Courtney has deep feelings for him. Even dad Rick says he would love to have Ben as a son-in-law and some grandkids in the future.

After dinner with the parents, the two head off for a picnic where Courtney has an interesting surprise. She tells Ben that the park they're in is a place she's dreamed of getting married and then walks him over to an area that looks set up for a wedding. She pulls out a bowtie for Ben to wear and some paper and pen to write vows on. Then there's a man to perform the ceremony. After the two take some time to write their vows, they say them for each other. Ben's vows are surprisingly beautiful. Courtney stumbles during hers, but ultimately tells him what she was planning to all along—that she loves him.

In Los Angeles, Ben and Chris Harrison have a heart-to-heart about each of the dates before Ben meets the women at the rose ceremony. "It was an incredible week for me, he tells the women.  "Thank you for being open and honest and helping me through this." And the first rose goes to Courtney. The next rose is to Lindzi, and Ben's last rose goes to Nicki. Kacie B, shockingly, is going home. They sit down as Kacie cries, but all Ben can do is say he's sorry. Kacie cries in the limo wonders why she's not good enough and then curses about not knowing what went wrong.

Are you shocked about Kacie's dismissal? Do you think Ben made the right decision?

Premise: True love (or a TV facsimile thereof) gets the reality treatment in this long-running dating game, in which a successful bachelor romances a number of beauties. The list of possible paramours is reduced each week until he gives a final red rose to one of them. The series spun off 'The Bachelorette', a spate of rip-offs and very few lasting pairings.
