The Bachelor Episode Recap: Week 5 Season 16, Episode 5

Ben and the 11 remaining women are in Puerto Rico where Nicki receives the first one-on-one date. They take a helicopter to Old San Juan and Nicki says, "it's like God's smiling down on us right now." And he starts to rain on them. Ben finds her ability to go with the flow super attractive and comes up with their Plan B date, to get some dry clothes — authentic Puerto Rican dry clothes. Ben even says he has some Latin swagger.

At dinner, Ben wants Nicki to open up about her past marriage. She says she loved being in love but they became two different people and next time she wants to grow with somebody not grow away from that person. Ben is happy Nicki opened up and gives her a rose.

The group date card arrives and it's for Lindzi, Courtney, Jennifer, Kasey B, Emily, Rachel, Casey S, Jamie and Blakeley.  They're going to play some baseball at Roberto Clemente Stadium. Chris Harrison shows up to explain that they're going to be split up into two teams to play for a romantic beach party with Ben. Because it's an uneven number one lady will play for both teams and get an automatic invite to the party. That lucky lady, chosen by Ben, is Lindzi. The teams are Courtney, Kacie B, Casey S and Rachel vs. Blakely, Emily, Jennifer and Jamie. "Who knew strippers could play baseball?" Courtney says about Blakely. Kacie B, meanwhile, gets into it as the teams are tied heading into an extra inning. Red (Kacie B, Courtney, Jamie, Lindzi and Casey S) wins after a close one and a helicopter shows up to take them away.

At the night part of the date, Ben and Kacie B share some quality time together and it earns her a rose. Immediately after, Courtney steals him away for some one-on-one time. "You gotta do what you gotta do," she says.

Elyse has her first one-on-one date with Ben on a yacht. She talks about doing everything she's always wanted to and admits that she also gave up her job and her best friend's wedding to be there. At dinner, where Ben wears a suit and bow tie, Elyse talks and Ben doesn't seem too into it. He grabs the rose and tells her that he was intrigued by her from the beginning, but he was hoping for some things on the date that he didn't find. Elyse cries as he says he can't give her a rose. "This Year's Love" plays (again — can we get another song?) as Elyse is sent off via boat.

As Ben arrives home, Courtney is waiting by his doorstep in her robe with wine. He invites her in. and soon they leave to go to the beach where we relive this scene. Yep, they skinny-dip.

It's time for the cocktail party, and needless to say Courtney is confident she's staying. Blakeley takes some time to talk to Ben and is super nervous. She says she's always wanted to find love and every day she writes something down that she likes about Ben. She says she never thought she deserved someone like him — but she's found something inside of herself and knows she does deserve it.  The other ladies, meanwhile, just happen to be chatting about skinny-dipping and Courtney rubs it in their face without them realizing it really happened. During Emily's talk with Ben, she tells him she wants to just focus on him and herself, and wishes she hadn't said anything about Courtney. On that same token, she then goes off talking about Courtney and how it bothers her. He encourages her to drop it and tread lightly.

At the rose ceremony, Ben hands out roses to Lindzi, Jamie, Rachel, Courtney, Casey S, Blakeley and Emily. Jennifer is surprisingly going home, but exits gracefully. Can you believe Courtney is still around? Looks like next week Ben finally confronts her.

Premise: True love (or a TV facsimile thereof) gets the reality treatment in this long-running dating game, in which a successful bachelor romances a number of beauties. The list of possible paramours is reduced each week until he gives a final red rose to one of them. The series spun off 'The Bachelorette', a spate of rip-offs and very few lasting pairings.
