The Bachelor Episode Recap: Week 8 Season 15, Episode 8

This week on The Bachelor, Brad takes the remaining four women to their hometowns to meet their families. Will any of the fathers give him a hard time? Will more ladies say, "I love you?" Let's find out.

Brad arrives in Seattle where he meets up with Chantal. After explaining to Brad just how close she is with her parents, as in neighbors, they head to her home. Boca, her puppy, is there to greet them. Upon seeing Chantal's nice place (just wait until they get to her parents' house), Brad admits he lives in the quintessential bachelor pad—a loft downtown with very little closet space. But he says he's open to expanding for her brood.

Next they head to her parents' mansion where the family is extremely welcoming. Despite the intimidating house and well-to-do mom and dad, Brad feels right at home. Brad and Mr. O get along famously and share many similarities, especially in their backgrounds. At the end of the meeting, Mr. O tells Brad, "We may not see you for awhile or may not see you ever again, but we give you our blessing." That's one father who OKs their daughters hand in marriage.

Ashley H
Brad goes to the most northeastern part of the country, Madawaska, ME, where Ashley is from. Right away Brad loves the small town vibe. Ashley explains that the town is actually a very French-speaking area and so at lunch when Brad tries to impress, he says "Si," when he really meant, "Oui." Ashley laughs it off.

After picking up some lobsters, the pair heads to her parents' house for dinner. Ashley is off the wall upon seeing her family. Brad speaks to her dad one-on-one and he reminds him how Ashley is set in making a career in dentistry. Brad wonders if he'll hold her back, but then realizes he would support her in building her career.

Perhaps Brad's most feared date this week was with Shawntel, a funeral director. ABC even treats viewers to the funeral's family commercial. It's a bit awkward as Shawntel explains the different parts of her job to him, and he's downright frightened as she has him lay down on the embalming table. While he's wigged out by everything, Brad does see the passion she has for what she does.

At the family home, Shawntel feels the pressure to stay in Chico and assume the family business. Shawntel makes it very clear in front of everyone that her plans have changed and now that she's falling in love, she might not stay in Chico forever. At the end of the night, Shawntel flat out tells him she loves him.

Before Brad shows up, we see Emily run to her daughter Ricky in excitement, and explain that she's brought home a new friend. A very nervous Brad arrives and Ricky is extremely shy. Luckily, Brad lightens the mood by giving Emily's daughter a butterfly kite. Things get even better when the three start to fly it and Ricky has a ball.

Back at Emily's house, they put Ricky to bed and head downstairs. Emily tells Brad she sees herself falling in love with him, but Brad is a bit standoffish. He explains that he wants to be affectionate, but that her daughter is upstairs and he wants to respect them. "If this thing works out she'll always be up there sleeping," Emily says, really hoping he gets the hint. He doesn't, though, until he leaves and the two share a passionate goodbye kiss.

Chris talks to Brad in New York City and touches on different points from each of the dates. He mentions how well Chantal's dad and Brad hit it off, how Brad was comfortable with Ashley's family, Shawntel's creepy work place, and meeting Emily's daughter. Chris also brings up that Ashley was the only one to not say that she loves him or is close to loving him, and Brad takes the point in.

Rose ceremony

Brad tells the women that he's following his heart and although they're all incredible, he has to say goodbye. Ashley, Emily, and finally Chantal receive roses. Looks like our readers accurately predicted the outcome in our poll.

Brad walks Shawntel outside and tells him that he cares for her, but didn't feel the way a man should feel when she said she loved him. Ouch. "You've set the bar for me," she says and is a complete class act on her way out.

Next week the group heads to South Africa for the fantasy dates and it looks like Emily may say no to the fantasy suite.

Premise: True love (or a TV facsimile thereof) gets the reality treatment in this long-running dating game, in which a successful bachelor romances a number of beauties. The list of possible paramours is reduced each week until he gives a final red rose to one of them. The series spun off 'The Bachelorette', a spate of rip-offs and very few lasting pairings.
