The Bachelor Episode Recap: Week 2 Season 15, Episode 2

The ladies of The Bachelor have moved into their mansion and it's time to start the dates with Brad.

"Use your time wisely," Chris Harrison warns the women. Ashley H. is the lucky winner who receives the very first one-on-one. As she and Brad head off, they venture onto a dark dirt road where it appears they could be starring in a teaser for Law & Order: SVU. But, of course, it's just The Bachelor, and after Brad instructs Ashley to flip a switch, lights come on to reveal they're in an insanely awesome carnival. Thank you, ABC, now I expect my own personal carnival on my next date.

The date goes extremely well as Ashley and Brad open up to each other about their similar issues with their dads. Ashley's had problems with addiction and is homeless and Brad begins to choke up as he tells her about his own absent father. Between their quick bond and intense make-out sessions, Ash receives a rose.

Fifteen of the remaining women go on a group date with Brad. In case you hadn't picked up on this during the first 30 minutes of the show, it's Michelle's birthday. The group goes to the American Red Cross where they shoot a PSA. Brad, you are not an actor, my friend, but you get points for trying. Poor Keltie has to play a "butch girl in a neck brace," as the card reads, while Britt is mortified she has to pretend she's about to be engaged in a threesome with Brad and Chantal. She quickly gets over it though and lays on the bed. And then there's Michelle, who's not happy that she doesn't get alone time with Brad on her 30th birthday. But the "woe-is-me, it's my birthday" line works because Brad rewards her with a rose.

Jackie is the next to be treated to a one-on-one date with Brad. They change into matching robes and she's brought into a room full of gorgeous dresses and accessories. They get in their limo and end up in the Hollywood Bowl, which they have all to themselves. Over dinner, they discuss Jackie's lack of relationships. She's only had two, which bothers Brad, but I don't see the big deal with it at all. He picks up the rose and says that although he's a bit worried, he's willing to hang in there if she is. Jackie accepts the rose and another surprise awaits them — Train. They dance and ultimately kiss during their private performance.

At the cocktail party, Michelle steals Brad away for some hard-hitting questions like, "Starbucks or Coffee Bean?" Starbucks is his answer, in case you were dying to know. During Emily's time with Brad, she admits she's a private person and he says he'll be as patient as he needs to be. She makes him lose words, he tells her, and is obviously smitten. Melissa, meanwhile, continues to argue with Raichel. On their group date, Melissa had told Raichel she was talking like a 21-year-old and now she says, "Nothing about you entertains me." Melissa is supposed to be the older and more mature one, hmm. Not so much. She gets some alone time with Brad and cries immediately and tells him that Raichel has been pulling the positive energy out of her — and also that she ate too many onions on her pizza. TMI. Raichel then cries during her alone time and asks Brad for a hug. She spills her side of the fight.

Chris breaks up the party by announcing that former Bachelorette Ali and her fiancé Roberto are on hand to help Brad see who is there for the right reasons. Melissa bursts into tears when she sees Ali and Roberto and talks more about her issues with Raichel. After they meet with the rest of the ladies, Brad chats with Ali and Roberto and asks for guidance. He gives the rose based on their insight to Emily. Good choice.

Brad gives out the remaining roses to: Chantal, Sarah, Alli, Kimberly, Shawntel, Stacey, Ashley S, Madison, Lisa, Marissa, Meghan, Lindsay, and Britt. Both drama queens Melissa and Raichel are eliminated, along with Keltie.

Are you surprised by his picks?

Premise: True love (or a TV facsimile thereof) gets the reality treatment in this long-running dating game, in which a successful bachelor romances a number of beauties. The list of possible paramours is reduced each week until he gives a final red rose to one of them. The series spun off 'The Bachelorette', a spate of rip-offs and very few lasting pairings.
