It's the only major awards show where the old guard and new blood clash on an annual basis, and among the few things you can bet on in this unpredictable process are that Michael Douglas will win for his Liberace impersonation (ditto his HBO movie Behind the Candelabra) and that host Neil Patrick Harris will do his damnedest to make CBS's live Emmys telecast (8/7c, 5 Pacific) as enjoyable as the Tonys.

New Amazing Race Cast Features NFL Teammates, Baseball Wives and More

The Amazing Race is about to embark on its 23rd sprint around the world, and host Phil Keoghan will welcome11 new teams on 35,000 mile, $1 million journey.

The Emmy Award-winning series will bring back the Double Express Pass the series introduced last season. Whoever is the first team to check in at the first pit stop will earn two Express Passes, one which they keep and another which they must give to a different team by the end of the fifth leg of the race. read more

The Wednesday Playlist: Music on Idol and The Neighbors; More Tests for The Americans

ABC has been running a series of ads lately for The Neighbors quoting TV critics who trashed the show when it premiered in September but have since changed their mind or at least lightened up about this harmless time-waster. I was not among those quoted, for good reason. I'm hardly a fan, but even back in the fall, I knew there were far worse sitcoms to get riled up about — including elsewhere on Wednesday (NBC's DOA Animal Practice and the presumably soon-to-vanish mediocrity Guys With Kids) — and my main objection, then as now, is its occupation of prime real estate between two infinitely better comedies, The Middle and Modern Family. read more
