  • Love Me... Love Me Not: HBO Scraps Racy Series | Today's News: Our Take | 7/26/2008 New
Skin is... out, at least where Tell Me You Love Me is concerened. HBO, which had ordered a second season of the "controversial" (if not exactly compelling) series after just four episodes, has opted not to resume production after all. In a statement, series creator Cynthia Mort explains that the creative team was "unable to find the direction... for the second season." Tell Me You Love Me concerned three couples undergoing counseling for all manner of sexual issues. Cast members included Sonya... read more

HBO's controversial series continues to enjoy a groundswell of support from fans. Famous for its sexually explicit scenes, the show focuses on three couples at different stages of their lives trying to navigate their way through infertility, infidelity and other marital struggles. At times, it's brilliantly realistic, capturing in quiet, dramatically unerotic form what married life is like; at others, it veers into the plain bizarre, as characters seem to make inexplicable decisions.... read more

Having spent 10 weeks with characters searching for answers and trying to make the best decisions they can, I find it hard to stop watching. So tonight's first-season finale (there will be a second season) had me gasping nonstop. The biggest surprise was watching Jamie avoid Hugo at the minimart, then eventually slap that wedding invitation on his windshield and end up at the notary public's office waiting to marry him. Jamie is so energized by Hugo that in her session with Dr. May, who was... read more
  • Episode 9 Recap: "Separation Anxiety" | Tell Me You Love Me Show Blog | 11/5/2007
The couples we've been following so closely went through some changes this week, mostly by their own choosing.Rita is separating from Dan, and it upsets Katie's world. Katie is freaked out that this could be the answer to her marital problems. Even though she is surprised that Katie is surprised at her actions, Rita has proven that having a baby is not a good solution to save a marriage.Unsatisfied with redoing the patio every year, Katie makes changes by seeking a job interview, going clothes... read more
  • Episode 8 Recap: "Baby Love" | Tell Me You Love Me Show Blog | 10/29/2007
Becoming a sexual person is a memorable part of growing up, but how many can say that it started when watching the movie Swimfan? Isabella can. She is becoming a young woman, exploring the changes in her body and poses questions about them to her mother. As someone who now wants to avoid talking about sex in therapy, Katie seemed to respond sensitively and was comfortable telling Isabella it's OK to touch herself.Dr. May is two minutes late for their session and Katie is ready to bolt. But... read more
  • Episode 7 Recap: "Faking It" | Tell Me You Love Me Show Blog | 10/22/2007
There were a lot of lies uncovered this week by way of honesty. And in some cases, it was the best policy. Let's break it down. With the kids away for the weekend, you'd think that glances at each other's naked bodies would be the perfect catalyst for Dave and Katie to get it on. But they don’t. It becomes apparent at the restaurant when Rita and Dan leave them alone at the table that Katie and Dave are unaccustomed to touching. When looking around the dining room wondering if other couples... read more

I just recently got into Showtime's Brotherhood and I have to say, I am totally loving it. The whole cast is great, the stories are interesting, and I'm glad Showtime had faith to keep it going after subpar viewership. I should be caught up soon to start Season 2. In another recent addition to my list, I found Dexter this summer and was equally blown away. Michael C. Hall has found another terrific drama after Six Feet Under; I can't wait for what's in store for Dex this year. Add in the sexy... read more
  • Episode 6 Recap: " Heal" | Tell Me You Love Me Show Blog | 10/15/2007
The tale of Katie and Dave kicks off the episode with them visiting Dr. May, and immediately I'm hooked. Ally Walker and Tim DeKay deliver their lines so naturally and with such spontaneity it's hard to imagine it's scripted. Dave is still resistant to therapy, first wanting to leave the session early, then defensively turning Katie's words around to put the blame on her. Dr. May recommends forgetting about sex to remove any burden and expectations. Later, we learn that May and Arthur were in... read more
  • Episode 5 Recap: "Obstacles" | Tell Me You Love Me Show Blog | 10/8/2007
It was difficult deciding whom to discuss first this week, as each couple gets deeper into their stuff. So as Dr. May says, "let's talk about what nobody wants to talk about."I'm always wondering what Carolyn will do next, and insemination day kept me guessing. In spite of the fact that her chances of conception aren't confirmed to be at least 50 percent positive, she smiles nonstop and takes high highs to new heights. Her online search for indications of pregnancy creates psychosomatic... read more
  • Episode 4 Recap: "I'm Not in Love" | Tell Me You Love Me Show Blog | 10/1/2007
Was anyone surprised when David said he wanted to join Katie in her therapy session? I've been anticipating this moment and it was worth the wait. The elephant in the room isn't initially addressed when Dr. May asks about their anniversary. David loved the steak and the TiVo, but Katie mentions her disappointment with the purple teddy and that he never made a move on her after she showered. David previously stated he didn't want to be blamed and erupts when (rightly?) assuming Katie is doing... read more
  • Episode 3 Recap: "The Color Purple" | Tell Me You Love Me Show Blog | 9/24/2007
As each episode exposes more layers of the characters, this one uncovers some underlying feelings of hurt.Katie and David's 12th anniversary creates more angst than joy. Katie dismisses any opportunity to celebrate alone with David and tells Dr. May that spending a night in a hotel would be a stupid idea. Then when Rita (Sherry Stringfield) and Sally (Anne Ramsay) offer to watch the kids, Katie declines.David takes Isabella (Aislinn Paul) shopping for Katie's anniversary gift but has no clue... read more
  • Ask Matt | 9/24/2007
I've now given HBO's Tell Me You Love Me two chances, and I have to say I'm left with the feeling of "Tell me when it's over." I'm referring to the graphic sex scenes. You know how men sometimes say they only get Playboy for the articles? Well, that's how I feel about this show. Just when they are delving into something true and valid about relationships (particularly couples trying to get pregnant/couples drifting apart after they have children), I am assaulted with the ... read more
  • Episode 1 & 2 Recap: "Getting to Know You" | Tell Me You Love Me Show Blog | 9/17/2007
Since there was no posting last week for the premiere, I am going to dive right in and combine my impressions of Episodes 2 and 1. This totally engrossing drama about three couples with relationship problems not only has great acting but raises questions about the differences between sex, love and intimacy. Does sex equal love? Can we love without intimacy? And while the sex scenes may be titillating, their true meanings are found not only by examining why and when it's happening but by... read more

I just watched the first episode of HBO's Tell Me You Love Me from On Demand, and let me just say, thank god for fast forward. The show was absolutely boring. Not counting the sex scenes (which didn't bother me as they will others), the dialogue and pacing made me feel like I was watching an unfinished product. There was no background music at all, no stand-out heroic character, no dramatic action: basically nothing to get me to watch the second hour. How could HBO greenlight something so ... read more
  • Ratings: HBO's Not-so-big Love, Closer's Record Finale | Today's News: Our Take | 9/12/2007
    • The racy Tell Me You Love Me bedded only 910,000 viewers with its Sunday debut, falling 53 percent below HBO's month-prior average in the time slot and coming up way short versus the premieres of, say, John from Cincinnati (3.4 mil), Big Love (4.6 mil) and Rome (3.8 mil). As a result, lead-out Curb Your Enthusiasm drew its lowest season-premiere audience ever, 1.17 mil.• Monday's season-ender for TNT's The Closer delivered 9.2 million viewers, setting a new all-time high for an... read more
  • Sex Drama Tell Me You Love Me Gets Under the Skin | Roush Review | 9/12/2007
It hurts to watch. Not words often used to recommend something, but for HBO's sexually graphic and psychologically unsparing relationship drama Tell Me You Love Me, they fit. Much has been made of this series' unusually explicit lovemaking scenes, but what knocked me out was the nakedness of the raw emotions on display. Love Me follows three couples in crisis as they engage, with varying degrees of honesty and participation, in therapy. Among the questions confronted: Can love survive ... read more

HBO is premiering its new show Tell Me You Love Me this Sunday, and to my astonishment, you haven't yet written a single word about it. You're my go-to TV critic, and I'm especially eager to hear your opinion on this one. Some critics love it, calling it the HBO version of a Herskovitz-Zwick program (a huge endorsement in my book), while others think it's dull and pretentious. What do you say? read more
