What did the B.A. in B.A. ...

Clockwise, from bottom: Mr. T, Dirk Benedict, George Peppard, Dwight Schultz, The A-Team

Question: What did the B.A. in B.A. Baracus, aka Mr. T, stand for?

Answer: Officially, the A-Team master mechanic's initials stood for "bad attitude," but most fans hold to the belief that they were really for "bad ass." Depending on which day you caught him, either could be accurate. If you'd asked any of the show's producers or the reporters who interviewed the mercurial star at a bad time, however, my guess is the consensus would lean toward the former.

The first time TV Guide sent a reporter to spend six days on the set of the hit action show, which ran on NBC from January 1983 to June 1987, the writer was stonewalled by T's equally formidable brothers, who explained that an interview wouldn't happen unless it was a matter of life or death. Asked if another time was more appropriate, perhaps lunchtime or later in the afte read more

Las Vegas Well, they didn't call...

Las VegasWell, they didn't call this episode "Down and Dirty" for nothing. A porn convention takes up temporary residence at the Montecito, which means I can't write about half the things that happened; I'm going to take the high road and remain somewhat family-friendly. Let me just say that there was an ample amount of adult-oriented puns, situations, fun porn movie titles and a cameo from some guy I've never heard of named Ron Jeremy. (That's the story I'm sticking to.) Let's move on to things of the Barry Bostwick persuasion, shall we? Called on to direct Big Ed's TV commercial, it turns out his character used to date Ed's wife, Jillian. Let's see, Cheryl Ladd and Barry Bostwick. A few Googles later and I find out that back in the day (1978), Barry was in a Se read more

Can you tell me who played ...

Leading man: Hunter's Dryer and Kramer

Question: Can you tell me who played Hunter on the old TV series by that name? Thank you.

Answer: That was former All-Pro defensive end Fred Dryer, who spent three years with the New York Giants and 10 with the L.A. Rams before grabbing a very big gun and hitting the streets as tough-guy detective Rick Hunter on the NBC series. From the TV house of Stephen J. Cannell (The A-Team, The Rockford Files, 21 Jump Street, Wiseguy), the show ran from September 1984 to August 1991 and initially focused on Hunter, a tough, take-no-prisoners, obey-no-superiors kind of cop and his equally cantankerous, red-tape-hating partner, Dee Dee McCall (Stepfanie Kramer). As the series progressed, however, Hunter ran through a few lady partners, which some said was a result of strife behin read more

Premise: An adventure series about soldiers of fortune with bad attitudes and firepower to burn. Its breakout hero was Mr. T ('You better watch out, sucker!'), who, like his comrades, seldom took anything too seriously. In fact, despite some criticism of the show's seemingly nonstop explosions and gunplay, it was rare to see anyone really hurt. The series premiered Jan. 23, 1983 (right after the Super Bowl), and despite its late entry was NBC's top-rated show for the 1982-83 season.
