Survivor: Nicaragua Episode Recap: "Company Will Be Arriving Soon" Season 21, Episode 8

The merge is here, and it could not come at a better time for both the viewers and Marty, who feels like he has new life in the game. After narrowly avoiding elimination last week, Marty is  able to start anew with his old buddies — including "Uncle Dan" — and hopes to start picking off some original bickering La Flor tribe members.

It doesn't take long for the bickering to begin, as the tribes reunite on the old Espada beach and partake in a feast and name their new tribe Libertad. Also included in this feast is a jar of flour, which NaOnka uses to make some tortillas for breakfast the next morning. After working over a hot fire, she makes the biggest tortilla for herself, but it's snatched up by the rest of the group before she can eat it. NaOnka gets angry, and you don't like her when she's angry! In a move straight out of the Russell Hantz playbook, she steals the jar of flour — as well as some pots, pans and fruit — and hides it in the jungle. Holly catches NaOnka in the act, but decides to keep her mouth shut. However, NaOnka did reveal her secret stash to Alina, who is convinced she will be the next player to go. Unbeknownst to Alina, NaOnka is also gunning for her because NaOnka and Brenda reestablished their old La Flor alliance at the merge.

When the rest of the tribe realizes their food and supplies are missing, Holly reveals she saw NaOnka steal them, but NaOnka keeps denying it. We also got the answer to the question, "how do you make Fabio's head explode?" Make things disappear! Fabio's confusion and reaction over the missing items was almost comical, as if he had never seen Survivor before and didn't know that — spoiler alert — people do steal items to mix up the camp a bit. Chase and Alina confront NaOnka and tell her she's better off confessing to her actions, which she does, throwing in a few lies about saving the flour for better rationing later in the game. Marty doesn't buy it and immediately puts the target on NaOnka, but she's protected by her alliance with Brenda, Chase, Jane and Sash.

This week's immunity challenge is the first endurance competition of the season, where each player uses a metal contraption to keep pressure on a pole. If the pressure is released, the pole will drop and break that player's tile, and they're out. The last man and woman standing will win individual immunity. Within three seconds of the competition, both Kelly Purple and Dan are out. Dan is the frontrunner for worst Survivor ever when it comes to, well, anything. He can't even stand still to win himself immunity! The women are knocked out first, all except for Jane, who stays in the game even after winning immunity just so she can prove herself and beat the guys, especially Marty. Fabio emerges as the winner for the men, but Jane is the last one to drop her pole, proving to herself and the rest of the tribe that despite her appearance, she's a physical force to be reckoned with.

Before Tribal Council, Libertad is split on their voting decision between Marty and Alina. Jane says she's not going to put anybody else's name down but Marty, but Sash does not want to go back on his deal he made with Marty last week when the hidden immunity idol switched sides. Sash wants his alliance to delay Marty's departure and instead vote out Alina, who's been on the outs with the original La Flor tribe since Day One. At Tribal Council, Marty immediately singles out Jane as being a huge threat, not only for her strength in challenges and at camp, but because she has the best story for winning the million-dollar prize if she makes the final three. It's a very vocal last ditch effort to save himself, but it's unnecessary as the rest of the tribe, minus Jane, casts their votes for Alina, sending her to Ponderosa and making her the first member of the jury.

What did you think about last night's episode? Are you surprised Marty and NaOnka are still in the game? And who is your favorite to win it all?
