Survivor: Nicaragua Episode Recap: "Turf Wars" Season 21, Episode 5

Drop your buffs, because it's time for a tribe shake-up! Jeff Probst broke the news a little early to the remaining 16 castaways this week, and not everybody was thrilled with the new company, especially Marty. The episode begins with Marty gloating about his successful ousting of Jimmy T and how he is now solidly in control of the older Espada tribe. His confidence is shattered when the tribes meet at the reward challenge and shuffle up, with Jane, Marty and Jill heading over to La Flor while Chase, NaOnka, Alina and Benry hop over to Espada. With that, Probst announces the battle of the ages is over and the Medallion of Power is no longer a factor in the game. MOP, we hardly knew ya! And it doesn't take long for Espada's losing streak to end, as they successfully catch golf balls traveling through a giant Survivor-like Plinko board to win three chickens to bring back to camp.

Once they arrive back at camp, Tyrone immediately takes control of the new Espada tribe, explaining the schedule and routine to the laid-back La Flor members. If there's one way to get a quick target on your back in Survivor, it's being the boss on the first impression. At the La Flor camp, Marty is shocked to discover that the young players lack a leader or any sense of organization, and he's further flabbergasted to discover NaOnka shoved Kelly B out of the way for a clue to the hidden immunity idol. In an act of camaraderie — or perhaps plain stupidity — Marty reveals to the La Flor tribe that he's got Espada's immunity idol and hangs it on a tree for all to see. Marty's aggressive game-play might have worked with his older tribe, but these players are little more ruthless than the old folks, and Marty might have a big problem if his arrogance continues.

The tribes reunite for a second time to compete in this week's immunity challenge, one of the more unique and exciting challenges in Survivor memory. Three players are strapped to a water wheel and must collect water in their mouths from a trough below and spit it in a container when they reach the top. Once the container is full, a ball will drop and two players must use it to break five tiles. Espada's strategy of slowing the wheel down when the players got to the top pays off and they reach the final leg first, but La Flor's accuracy with the ball and the tiles ultimately gives them the win. Espada returns to camp ready to head to yet another Tribal Council, but this time with a few different faces, and one that is ready to call it a day. NaOnka finally shuts her mouth this week and buries her face in her shirt while a torrential rainstorm batters the tribe. She begins to break down, threatening to quit and has to be consoled by former enemy Alina and Chase, who shares a touching story about what he went through losing his father.

NaOnka may be weak, but Espada has their sights set on another target: Tyrone. The tribe decides to kill one of the hens for dinner before Tribal Council, much to Tyrone's chagrin, who argues that they should be preserved for egg production. Even though he disagrees, he still feasts on a chicken dinner, but takes a little more than his fair share. Alina, Chase, NaOnka and Benry decide they've had enough with Espada's rules and team up with Holly and Dan to send Tyrone home.

What did you think about last night's episode? Which player do you think will benefit most from the tribe swap: Marty or Holly?
