Survivor: Nicaragua Episode Recap: "This is Going to Hurt" Season 21, Episode 13

The family reunion episodes of Survivor are always my personal favorite, and this week's did not disappoint as the final six castaways received video messages — and visits — from their loved ones. Before the reward challenge, Chase once again made a promise to a fellow player — this time it was Fabio — saying that if either of them won the challenge, they would take the other so they could spend time with their moms. The waterworks are in full force as the castaways reunited with their family members before the challenge. Fabio, Chase and Sash are thrilled to see their moms, while Dan and Jane receive visits from their children and Holly reunites with her husband.

For the challenge, each Survivor teamed up with his or her family member to retrieve two bags of puzzle pieces from the pool and solve a three word phrase. Chase's mom rocks the puzzle and Chase once again wins reward. During his decision about who to bring along, he immediately picks Sash to make up for last week's boneheaded move, but when Jeff asks him for a second companion, he inexplicably chooses Holly again. Fabio is flabbergasted and lets his frustration to Chase known through his tears.

When Dan, Jane and Fabio get back to camp, they immediately start bashing Chase, claiming he is not loyal to his alliances and fails to act on promises he makes to other players. At the reward, the other three players form a solid alliance and argue that Fabio is the next player to go because he's well liked and strong in the challenges. The family members are left scratching their heads over Survivor-talk, baffled by how the game works. I'm still not convinced the actual players on that boat, especially Chase, know how the game runs 35 days into it.

Later, at the immunity challenge, the alliance's worst fears are realized when Fabio claims victory after navigating a rope course and puzzle while blindfolded. The Chase/Sash/Holly alliance is forced to reconsider their vote, and Fabio approaches the alliance with the suggestion that Jane — the fourth and lowest member of their alliance — be voted out. Chase once again waffles on this decision, and when Chase, Sash and Holly are strategizing in the jungle, Jane came up to them asking for a plan. After some awkward pauses and uncertain glances, Jane realizes she's the one going home tonight, and not-so-subtly lets her feelings known to her former alliance as she flips them the bird. And if anybody was still left with any doubt about her true feelings, she douses the campfire before Tribal Council, declaring "I started it, I'm the one who will put it out."

Jane doesn't go down without a fight at Tribal Council, and she immediately starts attacking her former alliance, calling out Holly for sinking Dan's shoes within the first few days of the game. She also fully acknowledges she is going home that night, which prompts Jeff to ask the remaining three players not in an alliance — Fabio, Dan and Jane — why they're not voting for either Chase, Sash or Holly to force a tie. Chase and Sash both played their hidden immunity idols and in a unanimous vote, Jane was sent packing.

What did you think about last night's episode? Do you love the "loved ones," or do you find it a bit cheesy? And who do you think deserves the title of sole Survivor on Sunday?
