Supernatural Episode Recap: "Lucifer Rising" Season 4, Episode 22

Supernatural's Season 4 finale featured Sam and Dean on separate paths. Sam took off with Ruby on a mission to kill Lilith while Dean hung out with the angels. Could the apocalypse possibly be averted?

Much like "When the Levee Breaks," I'm going to have to think about this episode for a long time. The cliffhanger didn't have the same impact as "Devil's Trap" or "No Rest for the Wicked." But it was more like Season 2's "All Hell Breaks Loose Part II" in that it set up what I imagine Season 5 is going to be all about. It also managed to provide some hope that Sam and Dean will be able to ... read more

Supernatural Episode Recap: "When the Levee Breaks" Season 4, Episode 21

In this intervention episode, Dean locked up Sam in Bobby's panic room, so we were treated to the youngest Winchester experiencing all the effects of demon blood withdrawal. Plus, Castiel showed up and made Dean an offer he couldn't refuse. Well, he could refuse. But he didn't.

"When the Levee Breaks" was one of those Supernatural episodes I seriously wish I had a week to think about before I had to write the blog. Some of the things that happened just stunned me. And at times (many times), it was really painful to watch because ... read more

Supernatural Episode Recap: "The Rapture" Season 4, Episode 20

Supernatural's Misha Collins got to show off his range in "The Rapture," an episode where we learned about Castiel's human vessel. But even above and beyond this sad, sad story, Dean finally found out Sam's big secret.

We were first introduced to Castiel in the season premiere. Over the course of the season, we saw an angel who slowly but surely started to show glimpses of humanity. Uriel even let it be known that Cas had sort of a soft spot for Dean. And in "The Monster at the End of this Book" the angel helped Dean win a battle over Lilith who was trying to seduce and make a deal with Sam.

I guess that was enough to get Castiel in trouble with the angel powers that be. But before we get to that, we first saw Cas ... read more

Supernatural Episode Recap: "Jump the Shark" Season 4, Episode 19

The third Winchester brother was introduced in what was a very creepy way. Sam and Dean's issues with each other and their father John Winchester also took front and center in this episode called "Jump the Shark." read more

Supernatural Episode Recap: "The Monster at the End of this Book" Season 4, Episode 18

Sam and Dean found out their demon-hunting lives were detailed in a series of books called Supernatural. And what followed was an hour that took the time to pay homage to a little thing called "fandom" and furthered along the show's mythology. read more

Supernatural Episode Recap: "It's a Terrible Life" Season 4, Episode 17

Right off the bat we were treated to an alternate reality where Dean Smith was a corporate go-getter and Sam Wesson (yes, Smith & Wesson, like the handguns), the computer expert, set up shop in a cubicle. In this world the ghost hunting brothers were merely two strangers who worked for the same company. How would Sam and Dean reconnect? Would they rediscover their Winchester (yes, like the rifle) memories? And why in the world did they have to go through this?

Supernatural Episode Recap: "On the Head of a Pin" Season 4, Episode 16

"On the Head of a Pin" was a devastating episode in so many ways. Questions were answered. Dean's self-worth spiraled downward until he hit rock bottom. Meanwhile, we witnessed Sam's secret to his demon-killing success. Plus, a traitor was revealed.

Supernatural Episode Recap: "Death Takes a Holiday" Season 4, Episode 15

Supernatural Recap: "Sex and Violence" Season 4, Episode 14

Sex, violence, strippers and one seriously nasty siren all added up to one hell of a Sam-and-Dean smackdown.

"We used to be in this together. We used to have each other's backs."

Supernatural Episode Recap: "After School Special" Season 4, Episode 13

We finally got a glimpse of Sam and Dean in high school. Dean wore shorts. And we found out what happens when someone calls Sam a freak. Apparently, when he was a teenager, it meant he went medieval on a bully's ass, even if he hadn't exactly gone through that monster growth spurt we know he was about to experience. Don't mess with wee Sammy. That tiny kid was tough.

Supernatural Episode Recap: "Criss Angel is a Douchebag" Season 4, Episode 12

This awesomely titled episode managed to entertain and depress all at the same time. The hour featured some great guest stars; signaled the return of Ruby for the first time in 2009; and served us a nice side dish of Sam angst. But the lesson I really learned is that characters on a network TV show can say douche eight times in one hour. Who knew? read more

Supernatural Episode Recap: "Family Remains" Season 4, Episode 11

The first new episode of 2009 felt real old school to me. Sam slept in the Impala; Dean uttered the word "Yahtzee;" and the brothers even laid down some salt lines. But Dean's confession at the end of the hour still has me sitting here in shock trying to figure it all out. read more

Supernatural Episode Recap: "Heaven and Hell" Season 4, Episode 10

It was a battle of angels versus demons during the final episode of Supernatural for 2008. Castiel and Uriel on one side, Alistair and his posse on the other. Stuck in the middle were Sam, Dean, Anna and Ruby. One would "fall," three would survive.

Once again, I'm curious to find out how everyone reacted to this episode. "Heaven and Hell" featured lots of angels and demons, of course. It even featured a fallen angel. The women were as much a part of this episode as the men, something that would normally bother me. But it didn't this time around. I actually enjoyed Ruby. And I loved ... read more

Supernatural Episode Recap: "I Know What You Did Last Summer" Season 4, Episode 9

"I Know What You Did Last Summer" was exactly that. We finally learned just what Sam was up to while Dean was in hell. We also were introduced to a couple new characters: a girl who could hear angels talking in her head and a new badass demon. Of course there was another big occurrence, proof positive of a Sam and Ruby hook up.

It took us nine episodes, but Sam finally laid his cards on the table. First of all, I'm just glad ... read more

Supernatural Episode Recap: "Wishful Thinking" Season 4, Episode 8

In "Wishful Thinking," Sam wished Dean would open up about his time in hell. And a whole town wished for everything under the sun including a giant teddy bear and the power of invisibility. read more

Supernatural Episode Recap: "It's the Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester" Season 4, Episode 7

This week on Supernatural, Sam and Dean tried to stop the raising of Samhain, a demon associated with the origins of Halloween. Yeah, Samhain's return is significant. Raising him breaks one of the 66 seals which means Lucifer is that much closer to walking the Earth. Meanwhile, Castiel is back and we're introduced to a new angel. Uriel's not as "touchy-feely" as Cas and is definitely opinionated when it comes to the Winchester brothers.

First of all, I love the nod to Charlie Brown with the title of this episode: "It's the Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester." I thought we'd see a little more of a Sam that was ... read more

Supernatural Episode Recap: "Yellow Fever" Season 4, Episode 6

The brothers investigated the deaths of men who seemingly died of fear. A victim was a 44-year-old man who had a heart attack. One problem. The autopsy revealed his heart was healthy. All roads led to a ghost sickness, and guess which lucky Winchester got infected? Dean. As a result, Sam took charge of the case of the week, while his brother got scared of pretty much everything under the sun. At the end of "Yellow Fever," we were treated to an impromptu karaoke-style performance that just about stole the show.

Supernatural Episode Recap: "Monster Movie" Season 4, Episode 5

"Monster Movie" featured Sam and Dean hunting down an old school vampire, Wolf Man and mummy in what was a hilarious homage to classic horror movies. We're talkin' about a time when the hero got the girl, Dracula had a funny accent, and films were black and white. Was this experiment successful? Read on to find out. read more

Supernatural Episode Recap: "Metamorphosis" Season 4, Episode 4

Sam and Dean worked on an actual case that took them to Carthage, Missouri, where they dealt with a man who was turning into a flesh-eating monster. His situation paralleled Sam's in that they both had this darkness inside them they couldn't deny or completely control. Plus, Dean finally found out some of the secrets Sam has been keeping since he came back from hell.

While the case Sam and Dean worked on was interesting and thankfully brought up some issues for Sam, I have to say the whole Dean-Sam confrontational aspect of this episode took front and center for me. Dean witnessed Sam use his mind mojo to exorcise a demon. When Dean walked out and revealed himself to his brother and Ruby, I was kind of afraid for Sammy. And then Dean finally learned a couple truths the rest of us have known since the fourth season premiere:

• While he was in hell, Sam tapped into his powers. Repeatedly.
• His partner in crime happened to be Ruby.

"In the Beginning" Season 4, Episode 3

Castiel did his mind meld thing on Dean and bent time to send him back to 1973 where he encountered his dad mom and grandparents In what turned about to be an origins episode Dean finally learned the truth about his mom and her family how the Yellow-Eyed Demon YED became involved in their lives and even how the beloved Impala became the Winchesters car of choice I dont know about you guys but when the end credits hit I was seriously speechless Good thing I quickly got over it because I had to write a column about In the Beginning and figure out how to capture everything that happened in this episode without sounding incoherent It was satisfying in so many ways Yes I know Sammy was in this one for all of two seconds and I really miss it when the boys arent together in the Impala on the way to their next case but we got so many answers on things that involved the younger brother and one big question that will probably play out for the rest of the se read more

"Lazarus Rising" Season 4, Episode 1

Whyd you do it Because God commanded it Because we have work for youThat exchange between Dean and Castiel ended the premiere of Supernaturals fourth season The episode entitled Lazarus Rising signaled the show going in a more biblical direction After Dean dug his way out of the pine box that was his grave he was reunited with Bobby and then Sam The big news We learned Sam started utilizing his powers and Dean was saved by an angel named CastielI just couldnt believe the show went there It went there God ordered this Angel of the Lord to pull Dean out of hell because there was work to be done Wow Now I can tell you about the object that the Warner Bros publicists sent out with the first two episodes of Supernaturals Season 4 It was a copy of the Bible Seeing that gave me the first inclination as to where this season was going And after I watched the episode for the first time it all made sense I do have to say th read more
