Super Bowl XXX: Porn Interrupts Tucson Broadcast

Super Bowl XLIII

Super Bowl viewers in Tucson, Ariz., saw a different kind of action during Sunday night's game: KVOA TV's broadcast of the Super Bowl was interrupted for approximately 10 seconds by a porn clip in homes with Comcast cable.

"We are mortified by last evening's Super Bowl interruption and we apologize to our customers," Comcast said in a statement. "Our initial investigation suggests this was ...

Ratings: Super Bowl XLIII Scores Second-Largest Audience Ever

Super Bowl XLIII

NBC's coverage of Super Bowl XLIII averaged 95.4 million total viewers, making it the second-highest-rated Super Bowl of all time, according to updated Nielsen ratings.

The showdown between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Arizona Cardinals delivered a 42.1 rating and a 65 share, scoring highest in the Pittsburgh (duh), Norfolk, Va. and Jacksonville, Fla. markets, NBC said.

Last year's match-up between the Giants and Patriots was the most-watched Super Bowl ever, with an audience of 97.5 million. On the list of most-watched TV broadcasts in history, these past two Super Bowls place second and third behind the series finale of M*A*S*H (106 million viewers).

NBC's special broadcast of The Office tackled an audience of 22 million viewers. That's nearly double the comedy's previous record and represents the biggest viewership of any NBC entertainment telecast in more than four-and-a-half years (since the May 13, 2004 episode of ER).

Opposite the Super Bowl, ABC, CBS and Fox threw out almost entirely repeats. Fighting the good fight for the CW, meanwhile, was a broadcast of that ageless chestnut Throw Momma from the Train, which averaged 696,000 viewers.

The Super Bowl Ad You May Have Missed

If you didn’t happen to watch this past Super Bowl in New York, Dallas, L.A., or a handful of other “select markets,” chances are you were jipped out of a commercial. The Geico cavemen made their first ad appearance since their bomb of a show aired this past fall making. The Cro-Magnon pair make light of the fact that their lives were actually considered show-worthy. Looks like the tongue-in-cheek cave-men angle just won’t go away (and that goes for you too Budweiser and you’re “inventing the wheel” ad—come on, you guys are better than that!) read more

Entourage Star Eyes Beach Beauty at a Super Party

Kristin Cavallari by Jeffrey Mayer/WireImage.com

Laguna Beach babe Kristin Cavallari and Entourage's Kevin Connolly (aka Nicky Hilton's ex) made it clear they were a couple at the House of Hennessy at Super Bowl XLII party, presented by 944 Magazine and Tao Nightclub Sunday evening at a private mansion in Phoenix. Cavallari and Connolly imbibed and danced, and a partygoer says Cavallari (apparently taking her cue from Paris Hilton's alleged Elisha Cuthbert escapade) asked other girls to "make out with her." Cavallari, obviously not on the Zone diet, throughout the evening indulged in hamburgers and Hennessy cocktails (as did Connolly, while gabbing with Ryan Seacrest), and later left with the Entourage star. New uncle Benji Madden talked to Cisco Adler (who was shooting a new reality show at the party) about his brother Joel's new baby, Harlow, and proudly discussed the new parents' sheer joy. Richie's ex, DJ AM, meanwhile spun tunes all night long. Madden also hung with ex-Atlanta Falcon player Jamal Anderson, described as... read more

Top Super Bowl 2008 Commercials

Budweiser’s Rocky SpoofWe were so sad when Hank the horse was the only one not chosen for the Clydesdale hitch team. But when a wise Dalmatian steps up to train Hank, the next thing you know— he’s pulling trains and running through the snow (all set to a Rocky-like montage). And a year later, Hank makes the cut! Can we get a high-five! Coke’s Stewie vs. UnderdogCoke really outdid themselves this year. Their commercial had us on the edge of our seats almost as much as the final minutes of the game. We watched as the Stewie and Underdog balloons from the Thanksgiving Day Parade both vied for the same thing—a delicious looking Coca-Cola bottle balloon. But wait, out of no where, comes the one, the only, Charlie Brown with the steal! E*TRADE’s Trading Baby AdThey say that in advertising, cute animals and babies are sure fire winners. Well, last year E*TRADE went with a monkey, and this year they decided to follow suit by going the baby route. But we’... read more

Paula Abdul’s Pre-Game Performance

All that buzz about little Ms. Abdul debuting her new song at the Super Bowl, and for what? A pre-taped, lip synched performance. Granted she put some effort into singing along as closely as possible, but we secretly were rooting for her to rock out like she did in the old days with her first single release in ten years, “Dance Like There’s No Tomorrow.” All in all, we have to say were still impressed that the 45-year old American Idol judge was able to dance the way she did. Look closely for a bass-playing Randy cameo!Your take: Why do you think Paula scrapped the live performance aspect? Did she have a nasty case of stage fright? Or do you think the network was worried she would flop worse than Brit at the VMAs? read more
