I'm not even going to attempt ...

Question: I'm not even going to attempt to argue with Julie H.'s recent statement that drugs, alcohol and sex play a part in most high school experiences, considering that none of those things had to do with mine (and I'm 23), but I do want to address the somewhat roller-coaster trend of these teen dramas. I personally loved The O.C., so when I heard about Gossip Girl, I thought it would be a comparable replacement. When I watched the premiere, I (and after reading reviews, it seems that I am the only one) was severely disappointed. It was boring, predictable, at times unbelievable and insulting. After a benchmark-in-the-teen-drama-sector show like The O.C., and after failed attempt after failed attempt at remaking it (Life As We Know It, Summerland, Hidden Palms), what can these shows do to surprise us? I realize that a show about a bunch of poor kids with parents who love them would probably not even show at upfronts, but can't we move in that "normal" direction? Answer: Stephanie, do I ... read more

As a fan of Beautiful People ...

Question: As a fan of Beautiful People and seeing how short this last season was, I was wondering if you knew if there would be another season and if we will have to wait until after the summer. I see a new summer show, Falcon Beach, is being advertised (maybe like Summerland?) and figured maybe this was going to take Beautiful People's spot for the summer. Just wondering if you knew anything. Answer: It's way too early to know about People's renewal (probably no word until midsummer, which means no new episodes for a while if ever), but consider Falcon Beach for your new guilty pleasure, if you're into that sort of thing. It will be filling the slot where People previously aired ... read more

Cheryl Ladd: From Angel to... Grandma?

Las Vegas' Cheryl Ladd ages gracefully in Though None Go with Me (inset).

Cheryl Ladd, grandmother? Have we come to that point? Sort of, but not really. In the Hallmark Channel presentation Though None Go with Me (premiering Saturday at 9 pm/ET), Charlie's onetime Angel disappears behind old-age makeup to play Elizabeth Leroy Bishop, a woman who relates stories from her colorful and oft-times turbulent life — Amy Grabow plays Elizabeth as a young woman — to a grandchild. As anyone who has seen Ladd on Las Vegas knows, it must have taken a lot of powder to make this heavenly beauty look anything but robust. TVGuide.com: Look at you, playing grandma to some twentysomething girl!Cheryl Ladd: [Laughs] Yep! read more

Give me some Las Vegas scoop!

I'm just wondering what has ...

Question: I'm just wondering what has happened with the WB mid-season shows. Have they just not announced their schedule yet, or have they decided to just forget about airing their mid-season shows? I've heard that they might wait until March to air The Bedford Diaries and that there was some issue as to censorship, but what about the other shows? I heard that What I Like About You might not be back until March, which essentially leaves an hour on Friday (for the two mid-season sitcoms Modern Men and Misconceptions), an hour on Sunday (for Pepper Dennis) and an hour on Wednesday after One Tree Hill (for The Bedford Diaries, whenever it premieres.) So, which is it? Is the WB just not ready to announce its new schedule, or is the WB just foregoing a new mid-season altogether? If it's the latter, then why would the network air Beauty and the Geek on Thursdays instead of Wednesdays or Sundays and let Everwood stay on? Answer: Whew, that's an awful lot of questions for such a forgettable ... read more

Ouch! Top Model 4's First Cut

The fourth season of America's Next Top Model is underway, but sadly, it's already over for Brita Petersons. After taking the fall in a freakish fashion photo shoot, the Southern California-based model/waitress was the first finalist to go. Before another mannequin wannabe is eliminated in tonight's episode (8 pm/ET on UPN), the embittered Brita tells TVGuide.com why she wishes she'd thought twice before signing up for Miss Tyra's snarky sideshow. TVGuide.com: At the end of last week's episode, you said you regretted doing Top Model.Brita Petersons: In a sense, I do, because I did get cut first. And I signed a contract that has conflicted with modeling and acting work that I had been doing. I also think it's bad publicity when they say, "You're a beautiful girl, but you can' read more

Summerland Stud's Sexy Parts

A popular As the World Turns alumnus, Shawn Christian has left daytime behind, yet he still attracts very soap-studly roles. At 37, he remains the casting director's go-to guy when scripts call for a charmingly naughty piece of eye candy. Let's review his sinfully tasty résumé, shall we? Since ATWT, he's played Jennifer Aniston's gynecologist on Friends — "Rachel was randy and wanted to maul me" — and Bo Derek's boy-toy on NBC's short-lived Hawaiian sudser, Wind on Water. "I also did CSI, where I was a serial killer sleeping with my sister," he reminds TV Guide Online. "I'm always sleeping with someone!" Now, Christian's flexing his pecs on Summerland, the WB family drama created by Full House star Lori Loughlin. "I feel like I was stalking Lori," he chuckles, "because we'd worked as guest stars on the same shows, like Drew Carey, Spin City read more

Full House Grad Returns

On the Los Angeles set of WB's Summerland, Lori Loughlin steps out of the makeup trailer in hair rollers, green flip-flops and her fave green "Everybody Loves an Irish Girl" T-shirt. She's also wearing a wide grin. This lucky 39-year-old actress — best known as Uncle Jesse's girl from Full House — has reason to smile. She's the creator and leading lady of Summerland, which debuted to great ratings last week. Here, Loughlin tells TV Guide Online about escaping sitcom limbo with her very own Aaron Spelling beach fantasy. TV Guide Online: Full House ended in 1995. Do you mind that everyone still thinks of you as Jesse's girlfriend?Lori Loughlin: [Laughs] I was his wife and we had twin boys! Full House has absolutely afforded me this moment in time. Without the success of that show, I wouldn't be here right now. I couldn't come up with the idea for Summerland and have people be interested. I'm prou read more
