Mischievous 12-year-old twin brothers get into and out of predicaments at a posh hotel where their single mom works as a lounge singer.
  • I so enjoy your insights! ... | Matt Roush | 7/11/2008
Question: I so enjoy your insights! There are several shows I have tried, and fallen in love with, because you brought them to my attention (Wonderfalls, Pushing Daisies and The Wire come to mind). From time to time you, receive letters about the death of family sitcoms, the type that used to populate network airwaves, the ones entire families could enjoy together. Today, the Disney Channel has revived them big time. I cannot think of a network sitcom my kids even know, but they live for The... read more

  • Zack & Cody Spin-off Is Afloat — Minus Tisdale | Today's News: Our Take | 2/4/2008
'Member when Laverne and Shirley moved to Hollywood? (I'll allow you a moment for some groans....) Well, Disney Channel is similarly giving one of its biggest shows, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, a new setting. To begin production once the WGA strike (imminently!) wraps up, The Suite Life on Deck will find the twin brothers, as well as hotel heiress London, enrolled in a semester-at-sea program. Alas, just as Carmine, Lenny and Squiggy inexplicably tagged along, look for Mr. Moseby to... read more
  • As a parent of a tween, I ... | Matt Roush | 8/17/2007
Question: As a parent of a tween, I want to thank you for the nice words about High School Musical 2. My daughter has postponed her birthday party almost four weeks so she can have a High School Musical 2 premiere party. It is a huge deal in our house. It is so neat for someone of your stature — I really respect your reviews and commentaries — to give this show a positive review. I have a hard time understanding why the networks shy away from such programming. Why didn't Disney broadcast High... read more

  • Disney Channel Does the Fright Thing | Today's News: Our Take | 10/13/2006
For the occasion of this Friday the 13th, and as an early nod to Halloween, Disney Channel is airing appropriately themed episodes of four series: Tonight on The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, a scary-movie outing has a surprising effect on Zack, while on Saturday Hannah Montana finds series star Miley Cyrus playing three roles; The Replacements' Todd, Riley and Buzz investigate spooky neighbors; and The Emperor's New School has "Yzma trying to destroy the annual Kuzcoween holiday" (whatever... read more
  • To answer Rose's question ... | Matt Roush | 9/29/2006
Question: To answer Rose's question about the absence of kids from network TV: They went to cable. I have a preteen daughter who enjoys shows such as That's So Raven and The Suite Life of Zack and Cody on the Disney Channel. As I've watched a few episodes of these, I thought that these were very much like the family sitcoms that used to be on, say, ABC's old TGIF block. Answer: Good point. This is another excellent example of how cable has rushed in to fill gaps left by the broadcast... read more
