Ask Matt: Finales (Dallas, Southland, Suburgatory, Spartacus), Defiance, Americans

Question: I started watching Dallas at the tender age of 7. It was what my grandmother and I did on Friday nights and I have always been fond of the show. I was ecstatic when I heard about the new series. I have enjoyed it very much — although seeing some of the older cast members making an appearance has been somewhat painful — and I felt the way they handled the passing of Larry Hagman was respectful and keeping true to form with J.R. I read recently that Dallas has yet to be renewed. One of my frustrations with the mainstream networks (NBC, ABC, CBS, Fox) is that I'll get attached to a show and they cancel it. Please tell me TNT is going to renew this gem. Yes, the loss of J.R. as a character and Larry Hagman as an actor is a blow, but the story lines this season have been amazing and if they can keep it up, I know this show can have a good run. — Bonnie

Top Moments: The Week Stephen Colbert Did Everything Right

Stephen Colbert, Alan Cumming

Our best moments of the week:

12. What's in a Name? Award: Is the world big enough for two famous Adam Scotts? After Adam Scott the golfer won the Masters, Adam Scott the actor was predictably inundated with jokes. And he's sick of it. "The jokes were really lame," the Parks and Recreation star vents on Conan. "'I can't believe anyone could mix up the two Adam Scotts. They're "Poehler" opposites.' 'Hey Adam, you know what's way below par? Your acting.' ... I mean this with nothing but love in my heart, but, please, can everybody shut the hell up?" Impressed with how Scott handled the situation, Conan presents Scott with.... read more

The Wednesday Playlist: Southland, Suburgatory Finales,Idol, Real-Life Glee

Michael Cudlitz, Gerald McRaney

Without question, the hour of TV I have been most anticipating — and dreading — this week is the season, and for all we know, series finale of TNT's remarkable, brutal, bleak yet gripping cop drama Southland (Wednesday, 10/9c). Anticipating because each week, this series somehow raises the dramatic stakes for its characters, in a grueling but rewarding tour of duty through the socio-ethnic sprawl of Los Angeles. Dreading because Southland has almost always lived on the verge of ratings extinction, from the time TNT rescued the show after NBC dumped it before its second season could even premiere, and I fear (as do many) that this fifth season could very likely be its last hurrah. (Several of its stars have signed up for new work during this pilot season, perhaps seeing the writing on the wall.) read more

An Epic Girlfight! College Plans! 6 Teases for Suburgatory's Season 2 Finale and Beyond

Jane Levy

Tessa (Jane Levy) vs. Dalia (Carly Chaikin): It's the battle that's been brewing since Suburgatory started, and on Wednesday's hour-long season finale (8/7c on ABC), series creator and showrunner Emily Kapnek promises the fireworks will be well worth the wait. "There is just a full-blown, very wildly choreographed girlfight," she tells TVGuide.com. "It's kind of one of those moments where it was bound to happen and it's the only way to settle it. It's really an epic girlfight."

Unfortunately their long-awaited scuffle couldn't come at a worse time for their parents. In the final moments of last week's episode, George (Jeremy Sisto) and Dallas (Cheryl Hines) decided to move in together. So will Dalia and Tessa be able to work things out and co-habitate? Will George and Dallas actually go through with the big move? And what does Kapnek have planned for next season? Here are 5 more teases for what's on the horizon in Chatswin... read more

Suburgatory Boss on Dalia's Deep, Dark Secret and Her "Ultimate Vendetta" Against Tessa

Courtney Merritt, Carly Chaikin and Jane Levy

Dalia and Daddy Altman kissing in a tree. K-i-s — wait, what?!

Suburgatory threw fans not one, but two curveballs last week when the sophomore ABC sitcom revealed that that a) Dalia (Carly Chaikin) used to hook up with Noah's eldest daughter, Jenna (Courtney Merritt), and b) that she had a secret stash of pictures of her and George "Daddy" Altman (Jeremy Sisto) hidden in her sock drawer. But what does it all mean?  Thankfully, not everything is exactly what it seems.
