Episode Detail: The Night America Trembled - Studio One

James Coburn, Warren Beatty, Ed Asner and Vincent Gardenia stars in the 1957 teleplay about the Mercury Theatre's Oct. 30, 1938, performance of H.G. Wells' “War of the Worlds.” The landmark Halloween edition of Orson Welles' weekly radio show created a panic that swept the Nation as the classic tale of a Martian invasion was broadcast to more than 1 million households. Premise: A golden-age series of original live dramas and adaptations of classic works. The series, which earned numerous Emmys nominations during its 10-year run, won for Best Dramatic Show in 1952. `Studio One' creator and producer Worthington C. Miner encouraged innovation and creativity at all levels. Among its most memorable productions is the one that opened the 1954 season, `Twelve Angry Men,' which won Emmys for writing (Reginald Rose), directing (Franklin Schaffner) and acting (Robert Cummings).
