Strike It Rich on CBS

Needy contestants related their hard-luck stories, then answered relatively easy trivia questions in hopes of winning money. If they failed at that, they could seek relief from the `heart line,' a phone number that sympathetic viewers called with donations. The show, which originated on CBS radio in 1947, was on CBS's prime-time schedule from 1951 to '55. There were two attempts to revive `Strike It Rich' in the '70s, but neither was successful.
