Question: So I was watching two shows I really like this week coming to the end of their seasons. The first, Orphan Black, is not so well known, though I expect that is in the process of changing. The other, Game of Thrones, is very well known and discussed. I realized as I watched these shows, how little the first one has any type of spoilers and with the second, as well read and known as it is, that I hadn't had it spoiled for me prior to this episode. I have watched many shows both with and without knowing spoilers, and after watching ...

Question: Two slightly related questions. First, in recent weeks, we've had the return of (at least) three classic TV stars guest starring on hit shows, with Bob Newhart on The Big Bang Theory and Patty Duke and Meredith Baxter on Glee. While a large part of me got a kick out of seeing them again (especially Newhart), part of me was kind of saddened to see how much they've aged. Newhart seemed fairly frail (granted, it has been almost 25 years since Newhart left the airwaves), though still funny. read more

TNT Pulls the Plug on Southland After Five Seasons

Michael Cudlitz, Ben McKenzie

TNT has canceled gritty cop drama Southland after five seasons, the network confirmed Friday.

"TNT has made the difficult decision not to renew Southland for another season. We are enormously proud of Southland, which stands as one of the best police dramas ever made. Executive producers John Wells, Chris Chulack and Jonathan Lisco, along with creator Ann Biderman and our partners at Warner Bros. Television, have given us five seasons of... read more

I cannot wait for The Good Wife season finale, especially after that hot promo! What can you tell us? — Rachael
ADAM:
Will plays a huge part in the episode, and not just because the Bad Boy of Chicago is locking lips with the Good Wife. When Will, Alicia and Diane try a case of possible election fraud on the eve of the governor's race, Will ultimately ends up with the power to determine the winner. Will he choose the powerful husband of one of his firm's partners? Or will he screw over the guy that kinda stole his girl (twice!)? That's for us to know and you to find out on Sunday.

Got any more scoop on the Once Upon a Time finale? —Michelle

Question: I started watching Dallas at the tender age of 7. It was what my grandmother and I did on Friday nights and I have always been fond of the show. I was ecstatic when I heard about the new series. I have enjoyed it very much — although seeing some of the older cast members making an appearance has been somewhat painful — and I felt the way they handled the passing of Larry Hagman was respectful and keeping true to form with J.R. I read recently that Dallas has yet to be renewed. One of my frustrations with the mainstream networks (NBC, ABC, CBS, Fox) is that I'll get attached to a show and they cancel it. Please tell me TNT is going to renew this gem. Yes, the loss of J.R. as a character and Larry Hagman as an actor is a blow, but the story lines this season have been amazing and if they can keep it up, I know this show can have a good run. — Bonnie

Southland Star and Executive Producer on the Finale and Possible Next Season

Michael Cudlitz

For its entire five-season run on both NBC and TNT, the ratings-challenged Southland has struggled to stay alive. And after a heart-pounding and catastrophic finale on April 17 that drew a mediocre 1.8 million viewers, the gritty police drama is again facing cancellation. The day after the airing of what could be their final episode, which culminated in out-of-control John Cooper (Michael Cudlitz) getting shot down by fellow officers, executive producer Jonathan Lisco and Cudlitz looked back — and ahead... read more

Southland Finale: Is This the Show's Last Ride?

Shawn Hatosy, Ben McKenzie

On Wednesday's Southland (series?) finale, the entire Los Angeles Police Department will be fighting for one of their own.

This season's harrowing penultimate episode saw John Cooper (Michael Cudlitz) and his partner Henry Lucero (Anthony Ruvivar) kidnapped by drug addicts. By the end of the hour, Lucero was dead and Cooper only escaped after playing dead in a grave he'd dug for himself. Wednesday's episode (10/9c, TNT) picks up about three weeks later, and while John still hasn't been cleared to carry a gun and return to active duty, the rest of the force, including detetcives Adams (Regina King) and Robinson (Dorian Missick) are searching for the tweakers. "Cops don't go missing all the time, so when they do, it's a huge deal," Cudlitz tells TVGuide.com... read more

The Wednesday Playlist: Southland, Suburgatory Finales,Idol, Real-Life Glee

Michael Cudlitz, Gerald McRaney

Without question, the hour of TV I have been most anticipating — and dreading — this week is the season, and for all we know, series finale of TNT's remarkable, brutal, bleak yet gripping cop drama Southland (Wednesday, 10/9c). Anticipating because each week, this series somehow raises the dramatic stakes for its characters, in a grueling but rewarding tour of duty through the socio-ethnic sprawl of Los Angeles. Dreading because Southland has almost always lived on the verge of ratings extinction, from the time TNT rescued the show after NBC dumped it before its second season could even premiere, and I fear (as do many) that this fifth season could very likely be its last hurrah. (Several of its stars have signed up for new work during this pilot season, perhaps seeing the writing on the wall.) read more
