Premise: Amateur composers' songs were performed, then judged by celebrity panelists in this contest, which was simulcast on radio. The songwriters might have been amateurs, but not the singers. In fact, `Songs' featured the likes of Tony Bennett, Rosemary Clooney and Peggy Lee. Mitch Miller was one of the panelists, and Ray Bloch (`The Ed Sullivan Show') led the orchestra.
