So You Think You Can Dance Episode Recap: The Top 4 Perform Season 8, Episode 22

This is the final test: Marko, Melanie, Sasha and Tadd performed their last dances Wednesday night to prove that they should be America's Favorite Dancer. So You Think You Can Dance also welcomed Katie Holmes and choreographer Kenny Ortega (High School Musical trilogy, Dirty Dancing) to the judges table. Let's get to it:

Melanie and Marko, disco
Choreographer:
Doriana Sanchez
Song:
"I Feel Love," Donna Summer
It's a sparkle fest as Marko channels his inner John Travolta while wearing white. The lifts are impressive, but the energy is subdued and strange. Melanie has the right attitude, but... read more

So You Think You Can Dance: The Top 6 Perform Season 8, Episode 20

On last week's So You Think You Can Dance, Lady Gaga threw a shoe, much like a spirited filly. In fact, she threw both of her shoes to honor the Sonya Tayeh-choreographed performance by frontrunners Melanie and Sasha.

Will the Top 6 performance tonight inspire the same level of adoration from guest judge Christina Applegate? Although she stars in NBC's upcoming fall comedy Up All Night, she's more than just a sitcom star (Married ... With Children, Samantha Who?). Her dance cred includes helping found The Pussycat Dolls and starring in the 2005 Broadway revival of Sweet Charity, for which she won a Theatre World Award and was nominated for a Tony (and broke her foot!).

So You Think You Can Dance Episode Recap: The Top 8 Perform Season 8, Episode 18

I'm back from Comic-Con and have resumed my recapping duties. Last week, the Top 10 paired up with all-stars for the first time and the next night bid adieu to Clarice and Mitchell, he of the floppy hands.

It's down to the Top 8 tonight, and they have a tough road ahead. Not only do they have to perform two routines, but Lady Gaga is sitting in as a guest judge. How distracting is that? Oh, and Rob Marshall, director of Chicago, is also on the panel. But really, it's all about Gaga.

So You Think You Can Dance Episode Recap: The Top 10 Perform Season 8, Episode 16

After enduring the cruelest cut, the remaining Top 10 dancers have been separated from their previous partners and reteamed with the all-stars.

Adding to the night's excitement is How I Met Your Mother's Neil Patrick Harris sitting in as guest judge. Not only does he have a Broadway background, but he's also the star of Joss Whedon's musical web series, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, directed a production of the rock musical Rent at the Hollywood Bowl and won an Emmy for his guest-starring role as Bryan Ryan on Glee.

So You Think You Can Dance Episode Recap: The Top 12 Perform Season 8, Episode 14

Only a dozen dancers remain for this critical performance show, which determines the Top 10 competitors who will get to go on tour. The lucky hoofers will also get paired up with the All-Stars, who have yet to be named.

Tonight's guest judge is Jesse Tyler Ferguson of ABC's Modern Family. Wait, he has dance cred? Well, he has a Broadway background and originated the role of Leaf Coneybear in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Your trivia for the day. Choreographer Sonya Tayeh is also on the judges' panel. Like last week's Travis Wall, I'd prefer her choreographing something for me to watch, but I am curious to see what her critiquing style is.

The dancers have to perform two routines each tonight, which we can't even imagine having to learn in the space of a week. Let's see how they did: read more

So You Think You Can Dance Episode Recap: The Top 14 Perform Season 8, Episode 12

Carmen Electra is the celebrity guest judge tonight, but we didn't realize she had dance experience beyond the Pussycat Dolls. Apparently, she trained in ballet and modern dance. Choreographer (and So You Think You Can Dance alum) Travis Wall also joined the judges' panel tonight. Although I'm happy to hear his insights, I'm bummed he won't be choreographing any routines.

Last week we lost Miranda and Robert after their uneven Broadway performance, and it remains to be seen tonight who will surprise and who will fall short. Let's get down to it:

So You Think You Can Dance Episode Recap: The Top 16 Perform Season 8, Episode 10

The Top 16 dancers must move on after losing four of their own in last week's traumatic elimination show.

To help them overcome their loss is guest judge Kristin Chenoweth, of Broadway and Glee fame. We have faith in her. She always makes things better. Oh, and apparently her first country album is dropping on Sept. 13. Wait, Lil C is also here! It's chaos! Four judges! The show is also switching it up with two group numbers as well. Let's get down to it:

So You Think You Can Dance Episode Recap: The Top 20 Perform (Again) Season 8, Episode 8

After last week's reprieve, the Top 20 once again get to compete, which is good. But four of them will get cut tomorrow, which is bad. They've had one more week to get closer to each other, so when a fifth of the group is cut, that's going to be pretty traumatic. But hey, that's tomorrow. Tonight, we dance!

Debbie Reynolds is our guest judge this week and wearing much lavender. Anyone else a fan of Singin' in the Rain and Tammy and the Bachelor? But I digress. Before she became the mother of Princess Leia, Reynolds was a bona fide movie star who was the consummate triple threat — acting, singing and yes, dancing. The lady knows hoofing, so it's appropriate she's judging. I'm digging the guest judges this season so far. I think it shines a light on people we didn't know danced or reminds us of who we may have forgotten. Plus, it's Debbie Reynolds!

So You Think You Can Dance Episode Recap: The Top 20 Perform Season 8, Episode 6

We're psyched that So You Think You Can Dance reverted to the original Top 20 format. As they take to the stage to compete live for the first time this season, we learn that only 19 of the 20 are taking the stage because poor Mitchell injured his elbow in rehearsal and was advised to sit this one out.

So there you have it: The first injury of the season. We would just like to say be safe and careful, everybody. Rest, drink water, stretch. We still lament Alex Wong dropping from the competition last year.
