The group dance this week is choreographed by Shane Sparks. I think the piece did a great job of showcasing the hip-hop dancers. I would have liked to see all the dancers featured throughout but I will admit it was nice to see those whose specialty this is really shine. I enjoyed it.
Here are the results of our voting:
Katee & Joshua Safe
Twitch & Kherington Safe
Chelsea & Thayne Dancing for their lives. I'm not surprised.
Chelsie & Mark Safe
Matt & Kourtni Safe. I was worried, as you know, so this makes me happy.
Will & Jessica Safe
Susie & Marquis Dancing for their lives. No surprise there.
Chris and Comfort Dancing for their lives. I was surprised. I thought people might have liked Comfort enough to keep them safe.
Courtney & Gev Safe
Our special guest performer this week is a dancer who tried out for Seasons 1 and 2 of the show and made it to Vegas both times. It's
Flamenco dancer Tino Nunez. Now let me start by saying how much I enjoy the Flamenco. I think the majority of the time I've seen it danced, it's by a woman and I love all the dramatic skirt action and hands and arms. Seeing a male perform Flamenco solo was definitely an experience. I enjoyed it but I didn't love it. What did you think? Am I being too harsh?
Let's get to our solos:
Chelsea (contemporary) I just love her personality and I think it really comes across in her dancing. Despite that, I didn't love her solo. I didn't feel like she was putting it all out there. I thought it was good, but not great.
Thayne (contemporary) I really like his personality as well. His piece is beautiful and his dancing is very precise and controlled. I liked it.
Susie (Latin) I feel like she was relying way too much on throwing her hair around. She was warned about that before, but I think all common sense can go right out of your head when you're in a high-pressure situation such as this. I thought she was OK.
Marquis (contemporary) I feel like he was putting it all out there and really dancing for his life. Were there a lot of tricks? Yes. Did he seem a little desperate? Maybe, but he wants to stay in the competition.
Comfort (hip-hop) I think she's amazing. Her normal bubbly and very confident persona didn't seem to be in evidence tonight, but I really liked her piece. It was fun to watch.
Chris (contemporary) His piece came off a little too dramatic for me. There was some great dancing in there but I would have liked to see a little more dancing and a little less emoting.
The featured musical guest of the hour is Flo Rida. Since I was very impatient last week, I decided to watch the performance this week. And you know what? I'm just not sure I love live music. But I hope the rest of you enjoyed it because I made it about halfway through the performance before I hit the fast-forward button. I'm making progress.
What did the judges have to say? Nigel made a very pretty speech about how it was possible to fail tonight but to still be a brilliant dancer. I have to admit I'm glad he said that. I think it's tough for people who leave so early in the competition. And just because they have to go now doesn't mean they aren't great dancers.
Chelsea The judges think she has a great personality, but Nigel warns her there are dancers better than her on this show. She needs to step it up.
Susie She didn't use the stage as much as the judges would have liked. She seems to have lost the spark they saw in her during auditions.
Comfort The judges don't think she's found her potential on the show. However, she seemed to come alive during the group dance and that is what saved her tonight.
Thayne The judges think he has a great spirit and a lot of potential.
Marquis He's very good but the judges feel he relied too heavily on tricks in his solo and that's just not what this show is about.
Chris - They thought he danced with a great deal of passion.
Susie and Marquis are going home.
Last night, I predicted it would be these two. Susie and Marquis were very gracious in their departing remarks. Susie loved working with all the choreographers and Marquis thanked them for the opportunity. It's always hard to see two more dancers leave, but I think the judges made the right choice.
What did you think? Were you surprised by anything? I'll see you back here next week. And as always, thanks for all your great comments.
