Question: I just looked up Men in Trees on TV Guide's handy-dandy directory and was shocked and dismayed to find that it had been moved to Fridays at 10 pm/ET, the death row of the television world. Why? Any insight would be appreciated. I was really looking forward to Grey's Anatomy and Men in Trees together again. Wishful thinking, I suppose.
Answer: Well, if Big Shots (the new drama following Grey's this fall) fares the way last year's Six Degrees did, which from what I've seen so far would be the right way to go (into oblivion: talk about smarmy), maybe Men in Trees could shift back there the way it did last season when Six Degrees collapsed. I couldn't agree more; Grey's and Trees made such a nice fit, and with Ugly Betty starting the night, what an enjoyable three-hour block. The good news about the move to Fridays is that expectations won't be so great, and with Trees already sitting on so many unaired hours from last season, I'm reasonably convinced ABC will just let it alone

ulian McMahon and Dylan Walshin Nip/Tuck by Prashant Gupta/FX
Nip/Tuck stars Dylan Walsh and Julian McMahon will receive seven-figure bonuses on top of their standard five-percent salary increases for the coming Season 5, sources tell the Hollywood Reporter. The bump bolsters each actor's total compensation to about $125,000 for each of 22 episodes.... Once she pops out Tom Brady's progeny, Six Degrees stunner Bridget Moynahan has a deal set up at ABC wherein she will either get her own starring vehicle or be cast on one of the network's 2008-09 pilots, says Variety.

Two of my first Trivial Matt'rs blogs were dedicated to my early thoughts on the 2006-07 TV season, and at long last I have a few minutes here to revisit that "forecast" and see how I did. This is literally the first time I have looked back at those blogs, so here we go.Brothers & SistersI said: "Expectations were modest" given "foreboding backstage shuffles," but "by the end I was pulled in." Outcome: Lotsa critical acclaim and an early Season 2 pickup by ABC!The ClassI said: "The cast threatens to be unwieldy, but... I smell another [How I Met Your] Mother." Outcome: Some avid fans, some "decent" ratings, but no renewal yet. (Oh, and they shed one cast member.)RunawayI said: "The concept is nifty" and "good casting."Outcome: Far from a runaway hit, it was shelved after just a few airings.VanishedI said: "I need more answers, or at least hints of answers." Outcome: Fox's answer was, "Nope," and Vanished... quickly did just that.HeroesI said: "This show will be full of surprises...

Poor In Case of Emergency. The ABC newbie had only one week left in its only recently extended run, but the network is yanking it on April 18 and putting a Lost repeat in its place. And speaking of dead series, the Alphabet net is adding to its website the first of the remaining five episodes of Six Degrees, on April 27.

You could get whiplash trying to keep track of shows comings and goings during a network mid-season as chaotic and badly managed as this one is turning out to be. Some thoughts about the latest news, much of which surfaced in the trades and some of which has yet to be confirmed by the networks:First, the no-brainer: 7th Heaven is officially being laid to rest. Again. The family-friendly drama, which was brought back from cancellation a year ago when the new CW decided it needed to launch with as many familiar franchises as possible, is now gearing up to say goodbye to the Camdens once more, when the 11th season wraps May 13. This was hardly unexpected. The show went decidedly under the radar when the CW moved it from Mondays to Sundays, where it was stranded amid a sea of repeats and second-runs of shows like Americas Next Top Model. It was time to go a year ago. This is just sad.Now on to this springs roster of mid-season losers. Hope you didnt get too attac...

I almost didn't use Monday's "Wedding Is Off" ratings headline out of concern that it'd better serve a cancellation announcement. But hey, I'm no cynic. Yet here we are, and Fox has indeed shut down production on David E. Kelley's The Wedding Bells after seven episodes. The show debuted strongly then again, Supertrain would get 12 mil coming out of Idol but saw its numbers plunge to 4.5 mil last Friday. "We've been pleased with the show creatively," Fox says in a statement. "[It] just didn't secure the ratings we'd hope for."Speaking of underperforming freshman series airing on Fridays, ABC has yanked Six Degrees effectively immediately, replacing it with Wife Swap repeats starting April 13.

Although the official name of this episode is "Get a Room," I think "Missed Connections" is more appropriate since everyones romantic life is out of whack. "730,000 apartments on 23 square miles of land" and everyones looking for love. And an apartment. Whitney, Carlos and even Steven are on the hunt for new digs. Whitney wants to get out of the place she shared with her scheming ex and put down roots. Carlos seems ready to have a place on his own, and Steven is considering getting a place where he can give Max an actual bedroom and possibly have more privacy for himself and Anya. The best laid plans
.The whole missed connections thing starts when a gargoyle falls off the roof of Lauras building. A mystery man is disappointed he didn't have the courage to speak to her at the time so he posts a short message to her on craigslist. Laura responds to his post and they meet for coffee. Lauras expression upon meeting her mystery man is ...

A few ratings shout-outs from Friday and Sunday: It is with a heavy heart that I report that the Friday return of ABC's Six Degrees was met by a fifth-place-worthy audience of just 4.6 million total viewers. That's compared to the 7.6 mil Degrees drew with its last fresh outing (on Thursday, Nov. 2) and the 5.63 mil a Wife Swap repeat reaped the previous Friday at 9 pm/ET. Despite all the Tara Conner hooplah, Friday's Miss USA Pageant (7.37 million) was down a quarter mil from last year's telecast. That said, nice gown, Miss Tennessee. On Sunday, Extreme Makever (12.04 million) topped the 8 o'clock hour, but CBS dominated the rest of the evening opposite Housewives/B&S repeats and despite being delayed by basketball. NBC's Grease finale said "Ooh, ooh, ooh" to 6.78 mil, a bump of 190K week-to-week, while a romantic-angst-filled episode of The Apprentice (6.75 mil) was down 480 thou.
