Answering a desperate late night call for help, Chris arrives at an abandoned industrial plant to find Rita's sometime boyfriend Eric Russell mortally wounded by a gunshot to the chest. Yet, after he's unable to keep the gunman and his driver from escaping, Chris returns to find Eric's body is gone. As Rita vows to find his attacker, federal agent Pete Santos claims Eric was involved in gun running with Australian expatriate Lena Krell. And when they're shown a photograph of Eric with Johnny Almendarez, another ex-NYPD now working for Krell, Chris recognizes him as the shooter.

What they don't know is that she was killed while trying to blackmail a prominent judge who, in exchange for a lenient sentence in her husband's land fraud conviction, demanded certain sexual favors. And, as a result of her death, Paul Kemper suddenly faces fifteen years in prison. Meanwhile, as he is trying to get a shrimp business offthe ground, Atticus Dunn is plagued by a series of unpaid parking tickets.

Though he warns against pressing too hard on Kendall, it's after Lisa physically abuses his model/girlfriend Vicki that Chris decides to reprimand her. Yet it's Chris whose conduct is scrutinized when Lisa charges him with sexual harassment.

A record of Gina's last phone call first leads them to Savannah's former boyfriend and charter boat captain, Davis Lee. Heading back to Palm Beach, Rita and Jack then question the owners of Lee's boat, State Senator Ariana Rose. And some hasty denials and weak alibis lead them to suspect Ariana's polo-playing husband, Steven Bolton. Meanwhile, Jillian is offered a new job in Boston and asks Chris to quit his job to join her.

Although neither Lauren Hamilton nor her houseman can recall ever speaking with him, Hamilton Industries security chief Dan Tarr claims he spoke with Banning about a new job. Meanwhile, after joining Jillian for a long awaited island vacation, Chris takes ill with the flu.

When Lorena is discovered dead the following morning, Denise offers Jeremy an alibi to protect him from being a suspect in the case. With Chris sidelined by a bad back, Rita is assigned to the investigation. And it isn't long before her questions lead her to Michael, her foster brother from years ago.

However, when the sex play gets rough and corporate executive Wayne Thornton wakes to find Tamara's dead body in his bed, his assistant Chick Novack dumps the corpse over the balcony railing, hoping to make it look like a suicide. Yet, when the evidence doesn't add up and Chris and Rita open a murder investigation, Chick decides to silence Kristine, too.

Then, after Priscilla explodes in anger when she spots him coming out of Katherine's bedroom in the middle of the night, Steven is found stabbed to death. Meanwhile, Rita suspects Eric is on shaky financial grourid after his car is suddenly repossessed.

A former call girl, she is being forced back to work by Bobby Snyder, a pimp she once sent to jail. Suspecting something is going on, Paul Ricker hires private investigator Jack Keith to follow his wife. But, before he can tell Paul anything, Keith is caught by Bobby and killed. After turning up Ricker's check to Keith, Rita claims she knows Suzanne from the runaway shelter where they both volunteer. Although Paul claims he hired the detective to investigate software pirating, having known Keith from his days as a cop, Chris doesn't believe it.

On the verge of revealing the ongoing extortion of several men at his exclusive country club, Bart Crowley is murdered in the club's sauna. And when Chris finds his body during a round of golf with Donovan, he and Rita are assigned the case. Yet, as he investigation begins, Donovan is unaware that his new girlfriend and the club's tennis coach, Audrey Loew, is the murderer. Questioned by Rita, Audrey claims no knowledge of Crowley beyond a few tennis lessons before turning to another student for money. Yet, after his business manager reveals that Crowley was supporting a girl for whom he bought an expensive diamond bracelet, a visit to he jeweler leads Chris to suspect it may be Audrey. Meanwhile, Chris prepares for a lunch to introduce his father Benny to Jillian and her mother, Brooke.

Bryan's girlfriend Cally then turns to the police for help. And when Chris recalls his own one-night stand with Shaina while moonlighting as a security guard, he talks Rita into investigating. Although the Roses readily admit to being involved in some reckless gunplay, Shaina fails to remember Chris. To prove a point, Rita then challenges her partner to list all the women he was ever involved with. Meanwhile, after Bryan retrieves his demo tape from the Roses, Derrick is found shot to death.

After mud wrestler Tanya Yeager is found stabbed to death, Chris and Rita are skeptical when talent agent Joey Mellman claims he can identify the killer's voice. But when they find fellow wrestler Cindy Dann going through Tanya's condo, Joey also pops up with an offer to help with the investigation. Cindy says that Tanya's husband Paul had threatened to kill her, so Chris and Rita head for the spa where he works -only to find that Joey has beat them there, too. But, Yeager insists he was with a client who can give him an alibi and claims his late wife was a morphine addict. Then, after Chris and Rita discover Tanya also made a good living bilking her many boyfriends, an attempt on Joey's life lands him in protective custody with Captain Lipschitz.

When wealthy patriarch Winston Krane is murdered, Chris and Rita question his family and find that all is not well with the Kranes. To begin with, his eccentric grandson Dell suggests that the old man was involved in some rough sex play that got out of band. Chris then struggles to interview his manic-depressive daughter Caroline, while Rita speaks with Winston's sister, Karen, who blames the family's ill fate for his death. When Lipschitz finds that Winston subscribed to a kinky computer bulletin board, Rita is sent to an S and M club looking for a lead. But as she inquires about a possible suspect, she is identified as a cop and warned to stay away.

While investigating the beating death of twenty-eight year-old Heather Sinclair, Chris and Rita discover that she and her roommate/lover Marcy Fuller worked for Red Flag, a company which secretly tests the fidelity of fiances and spouses -- for a fee. Discovering Red Flag is owned and operated by none other than Atticus Dunn, they call on Heather's last target. Though he tries to deny ever seeing her, a tape recording of his proposition forces Larry Folger to come clean. Admitting that he beat Heather up after she walked away from his offer to go to a nearby hotel, Larry is arrested for her murder. But his alibi checks out and he is released, leaving Rita with little except Heather's prior arrest for extortion and a locker key she found in her purse.

After they are asked to leave by his son Junior, Roland's niece Claire sheds some light on the tense relationship between father and son. But, learning that Eve was also Junior's girlfriend, Chris and Rita begin to suspect foul play. Meanwhile, at a charity ball, Chris jumps in to defend Jillian against another doctor's unseemly remarks. However, when Jillian accuses Chris of embarrassing her, she leaves alone. And when she later apologizes and offers to call a truce, Chris must consider what he wants from their relationship.

After Douglas insists that everything is fine, Donovan explains Carrie's history to Rita, including a recent stay in a sanitarium after some trouble with the law. However, after insisting she doesn't believe the doctor's diagnosis, Victoria is found bludgeoned to death and Carrie is suspected of her murder.

Meanwhile, as Rita is helped through some computer problems by her suitor Eric Phillips, Chris reluctantly agrees to accompany Captain Lipschitz's niece to a spring break party.

With Junie's death now another in Herzog's grisly series of videos, Angel positively identifies Tommy as the man who kidnapped her friend. Realizing she needs a job to escape working the streets, Atticus then hires Angel to do deliveries for him. But, as she is celebrating her first day on the job, she is picked up by Herzog and spirited back to his loft. After Angel is also mutilated and killed, Rita is approached by Eric Russell, an ex­cop turned writer and authority on serial killers. Though Eric claims he has been tracking her killer for years, Rita refuses to cooperate, until ordered to by Lipschitz.
