The Los Angeles area has been without the NFL since 1995, which oddly enough was Year 1 of the X Games, the Super Bowl of action sports that has become a SoCal signature every summer at the Home Depot Center and Staples Center. The fit between event and locale is as flawless as a perfectly landed trick on a skateboard, motorcycle or BMX bike, of which you'll see plenty over 15 hours of live coverage the next four days. Skateboard Big Air and Moto X Step Up (like pole-vaulting on a motorcycle) highlight the opening night, with skateboarding legend Tony Hawk joining host Sal Masekela for all the adrenaline-filled commentary.

As if the NBA's worst record in 2008-09 wasn't bad enough for the Kings, they also got the worst pick in the 2009 draft that they could have possibly gotten. Granted, it's only the fourth overall pick, but that is the way the NBA draft-lottery system is set up. Blake Griffin is widely expected to be taken at No. 1 by the Clippers, who managed to grab the top pick in last month's lottery. After the first pick, it gets more murky with Ricky Rubio from Spain and Hasheem Thabeet from UConn.

Before that happens, however, the bottom three couples will dance for their TV lives in solo routines, and if that's not enough sizzle for you, rapper Sean Kingston performs "Fire Burning" from his second album, Tomorrow.

Jeers to TV Land for losing its style with She's Got the Look. Unlike most of the cable network's other shows, this isn't a rerun — it just feels like one. It's a blatant knockoff of America's Next Top Model, only the contestants are all over 35. Despite the age difference, the series offers the same old mix of weepy drama queens, I've-never-modeled-before tough chicks and catty judges (celebrity stylist Robert Verdi described one contestant's outfit as "M.C. Hammer meets Bea Arthur"). At least host Kim Alexis' catchphrase, "You're on the board," is more concise than Tyra's "Congratulations, you're still in the running towards becoming America's Next Top Model."
