Question: I am in the minority and am not a fan of Desperate Housewives. On the flip side, I do understand the concept of a guilty pleasure, which I consider this show to be. And, of course, it's extremely popular. Since when does extremely popular guilty pleasure necessarily translate into superior acting? I don't understand why the actresses on one show have to gobble up all the nominations. (This used to happen with Sex and the City and it drove me nuts.) I don't think the show is poorly acted, but the performances are not top-notch either. If it were in the drama category, I don't think any of the actresses would be in the top five. What do you think?
Answer: Have you seen how weak the drama-actress category is? Dramatically speaking, Marcia Cross and Felicity Huffman would easily qualify, and I'm thinking Cross in particular could give Glenn Close more of a run for her money than any of this year's other drama contenders. (Close would probably still win.) Hot ensemble shows,

Deadwood
Question: Why must every HBO series be vulgar, sexual or violent? Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of Deadwood, Sex and the City and The Sopranos. However, it seems as though HBO is following through with the idea that since they can show nudity and use foul language excessively, they must. Quality comes in all shapes and sizes. Why doesn't HBO go out on a limb and create a fantastic series that would appeal to all adults, and not just those who can handle the TV-MA rating?
Answer: What, you have a problem with what is generally spoken of as "cable edge"? I think it's fair to say that people who pony up for shows on pay cable are paying to get something they can't see elsewhere. And that means uncompromised, uncensored adult comedy and drama. Unfortunately, "adult" in this culture often becomes synonymous with raunchy language and behavior, and that can come off as merely exploitive. But on the upside, it allows for a frankness and honesty you don't always get elsewhere. I know a lot

Desperate Housewives' Eva Longoria
Question: TV Guide picked Eva Longoria for an Emmy nomination for lead actress in a comedy series. Why didn't she get nominated? She's so funny. What makes Marcia Cross, Felicity Huffman and Teri Hatcher more deserving of an Emmy nomination? Is Eva Longoria the Kristin Davis of Desperate Housewives?
Answer: First off, before we get too deep into this year's unavoidable litany of Emmy gripes, I suggest you check out my analysis of the Emmys from last week. Trying to explain the whys and wherefores of who does and doesn't get nominated is pretty much an impossible task, but in this case, I like the analogy to Sex and the City's Kristin Davis, who often had to sit and watch while her more experienced and acclaimed co-stars got the awards glory. It's not that she's less deserving, but she is the relative novice in these ranks, and her sex-kitten role, though deliciously played, is probably the slightest and least-developed of the major characters. (I'm not going to start a new round o ...

Today, Cynthia Nixon is dressed for the role she plays off screen — Upper West Side mom: khakis, low-heeled boots, wool hat pulled down over mussed blond hair (her true color). Settling into a booth at her local Manhattan sushi joint, the 39-year-old actress appears content with her life since Sex and the City ended its breathless run last year. For her latest project, she's traded in Sex's Jimmy Choos for sensible pumps, adding a prosthetic overbite and a high, fluttery voice to play Eleanor Roosevelt in HBO's Warm Springs (Saturday, 8 pm/ET). Her personal life has been no less exciting: After splitting with the father of her kids (Samantha, 8, and Charlie, 3), she has become involved with education activist Christine Marinoni. It's not a subject she cares to discuss because, as she points out, if she does, "then that's all anybody will want to ask me about."TV Guide: Why did you want to play Eleanor Roosevelt?Cy

Sex and the City has only one episode left! Will Carrie Bradshaw and Mr. Big soon be reunited and feelin' so good? "I've got a sniper pointing a gun at me," Chris Noth tells TV Guide Online. "I can't say anything!"
Mr. Big's wisecracking portrayer will allow this much: "I am in the last episode. We did shoot in Paris. I was there, and it was great. We shot three different endings — rare, medium rare and well done — so I don't know what's going to happen in the end."
If Carrie doesn't stay single, many fans hope she ends up with Big, instead of artist Aleksandr Petrovsky, who's played by ballet star Mikhail Baryshnikov — aka the guy Sarah Jessica Parker has zero ch

A glance at Nick Scotti's resumé quickly reveals that he's done it all: He's sung with Madonna (on his debut CD), he's messed around with Kim Cattrall (on Sex and the City), he's been a soap hunk (on The Young and the Restless) and a matinee idol (in the gay farce Kiss Me, Guido). So, really, what was left for him to do but share his accrued wisdom in his own Style Network series, New York Nick (Fridays at 10:30 pm/ET)?
"It's like a three-in-one show," he tells TV Guide Online, summing up the appeal of his goofily engaging half-hour show. "It's part how-to, part reality and part comedy. Originally, it was supposed to be just cooking. Then it kind of mutated — we said, 'You know what? Let's extend these tips to all aspects of life.'"
Why not? We're unlikely to try out any of

How will Sex and the City end? All we know is, the series finale somehow involves Carrie & Co. in ball gowns at Manhattan's St. Regis Hotel. That's where Sarah Jessica Parker and Sex producer Michael Patrick King were on Thursday, when they "met" reporters via satellite at the Television Critics Association press tour in Hollywood. SJP revealed little else, except her continued need to act cutesy and girlish, even though she's pushin' 40.
"I've got my ball gown [on] for you, ladies and gentleman," she giggled, wringing her hands and mugging for the camera. "Just a thrift store [item]. Nothing to speak of, really."
Though her costars admit they wish Sex could go on, SJP and King say they made the decision with HBO. "It was a confluence of things that brought us together to t

Right now, Kristin Davis and her Sex and the City costars are in the midst of shooting the final season. Is Charlotte's portrayer glad the HBO hit comedy is wrapping up? Or would she prefer to keep vampin' it up with Carrie, Samantha and Miranda for years to come?
"I'm going to be a bad girl, and I'm going to say I really feel like we should keep going," Davis told reporters at the Television Critics Assoc. press tour in Hollywood. "It's really hard for me to be ending. I intellectually understand, but it's so hard because it's so rare that you get a situation like this, and a group of people who really love to work together in this way.
"We're not finished yet, so I haven't totally had to deal with it," she continues. "But we've already had some tearful days. You know, we're trying to kind of hold ourselves together, but it's really hard. It's like family, and it's very intense, and I don't know how I'm going to get through the end, really."
