Sarah Chalke, Scrubs
Scrubs fans are hoping the on-again, off-again romance of J.D. and Elliot is resuscitated when the hospital-based sitcom returns for its eighth and final season on Jan. 6 on ABC. Sarah Chalke can't say for sure what happens, but she is hoping that her character and Zach Braff's J.D. go the way of Ross and Rachel and not Sam and Diane.
"I think they should ...

Courteney Cox
NBC must be kicking themselves now that their ex-comedy series, Scrubs, has added Friends alum Courteney Cox as Sacred Heart's new hot doc. Cox will guest star in a three episode arc filling Dr. Kelso's shoes as the new chief of medicine — and based on the sneak peek below, the former Mrs. Monica Gellar-Bing isn't holding anything back on the sexy front.

Scrubs
Not all of the scheduling moves ABC made on Thursday carried the taint of gloom and doom. (See: "Dirty Sexy, Daisies and Eli All Goners.")
The Alphabet net has announced a Tuesday, Jan. 6, premiere for Scrubs, which until now had aired on NBC. J.D., Turk and the gang will air double-episodes Tuesdays at 9 pm/ET for two weeks, before settling into a Tuesdays-at-9:30 home.
In other ABC scheduling news, Life on Mars is getting moved to Wednesdays at 10 — where it will lead out of Lost (starting Jan. 28, Mars' next fresh outing). In doing so, the Thursdays-at-10 slot will be freed up for Private Practice, which will air immediately after its mother show, Grey's Anatomy starting Jan. 8.
Life on Mars also has received an order for four additional Season 1 scripts, for a total of 17 thus far.

The complete seventh season of the Sacred Heart gang has arrived. The two-disc, eight episode Scrubs DVD set features season favorites such as "My #1 Doctor" when Janitor nabs a hottie girlfriend, and the much buzzed about finale, "My Princess," where the cast ends up in a magical fairytale land. Special features include commentary on all episodes from writers, producers and actors (including Zach Braff), a behind-the-scenes look at the "My Princess" episode, a one-on-one interview with Ken Jenkins (aka Bob Kelso), alternate lines, deleted scenes and, of course, a beloved blooper reel.

Zach Braff by Mitch Haaseth/ABC
Zach Braff will be leaving Scrubs at the end of this season. "Not by his choice," joked executive producer Bill Lawrence. That's the big, though perhaps not-too-surprising news to come out of ABC's panel Wednesday. As a result, the jocular conversation, led by head jester Lawrence, steered toward envisioning a post-J.D. Sacred Heart world. "Isn't Turk without J.D. a bit like Joanie without Chachi?" one snarky reporter asked. "It's like Chachi without Joanie actually," corrected Donald Faison (Turk himself!). Lawrence admitted that he had always pitched Scrubs as ER as a comedy, with a revolving cast of characters that would allow for new blood from time to time. The show has already introduced us to a new set of younger interns. "We cried when [Lawrence] said he was bringing in younger actors," said Sarah Chalke. To which the always-complimentary Lawrence shot back: "Why don't you take a gander at the opening credits [which date from the show's first season] and see how young you use...

Scrubs by Mitch Haaseth/ABC
Now that Scrubs has moved to ABC, do they have any plans to change the show at all?Well, not right away. Steve McPherson, president of ABC Entertainment, confirmed that J.D. and the gang will look and perform pretty much the same as they always have for this coming season. After that, McPherson says he'll have to talk to star Zach Braff and exec producer Bill Lawrence, but that he's open to the idea of rebooting the series with a new, perhaps younger cast, a la ER. (There's a Scrubs panel in a few hours, so stay tuned for more...)What do you think? Is Scrubs success in its casting, or can you imagine a younger cast taking over for the Sacred Heart crew? Who would you cast as the new interns? Amanda Bynes and Frankie Muniz, call your agents! Mickey O'Connor

Courteney Cox by Lester Cohen/WireImage.com
Could this casting be any cooler? Courteney Cox is joining the cast of NBC's ABC's Scrubs for a three-episode arc this coming midseason, playing Sacred Heart's new Chief of Medicine. As reported by EW's Ausiello, Cox's character will "ruffle feathers" in her capacity as Kelso's replacement. Dr. Cox is going to have three new souls to torture when Scrubs moves to ABC next season. Sources confirm to me exclusively that Betsy Beutler (The Black Donnellys), Eliza Coupe (HBO's 12 Miles of Bad Road) and Aziz Ansari (MTV's Human Giant) are joining the cast as Sacred Heart's newest interns. The trio will appear on a recurring basis. The injection of new blood is part of an ambitious plan to return the show to its more drama-filled roots. To read about the other changes in store, check out my fresh Q&A with series creator Bill Lawrence (aka Da Man).
