Wow. So much Scrubs and so little column. It’s a good problem to have, though.I feel I first need to address J.D.’s track-suited-gym-teacher-bunny-headed conscience. How odd was that? Even for this show. And why was his voice so high? Just wondering. Anyway, he got quite a workout during the first half of this episode… eventually. I couldn’t believe the ways that J.D. kept disappearing on Kim. Where was his conscience then? His running was enough that it actually made me feel badly for her. And then when she started honestly (we think) discussing her feelings and asking J.D.’s forgiveness, I found myself very quickly back in favor of their relationship. She was just so sweet. Sigh…. But now I don’t know. You know, I smiled when I realized that in this episode Elliot would already be furiously planning her wedding. It’s so very like her. And, of course, she was launching into the kind of details we could only expect from her. I’m not 100 percent positive on this, but I’m pretty sure we’ve heard in past seasons that she has reserved a church for several years. (Right?) I’d love to see the priest “crap a communion cracker” when he finds out this time it’s for real! And I’ll let everyone in on a little secret: The one plan of Elliot’s that might not seem so crazy to some women is the parasite-so-I-fit-in-my-dress one. Oh man, I don’t know guys. I’m just not sure about this J.D. and Elliot thing. As much as I will eternally love J.D., I also have grown to adore Elliot and I don’t want to see her throw away something good for J.D. if he’s not serious about her. But on the other hand, I want J.D. to finally be happy. When will the madness end, people? When? Oh, Keri Russell, you’ve done it again. You’ve made magic. Gone was the sweet, shy Felicity we all remember so fondly. Nope, this character was pretty much a female version of the Todd and Janitor combined. It’s pretty hard to believe that’s even possible. But after stealing a poor bar patron’s beer, asking if J.D.’s appletini comes in hetero, and explaining her very strict rules for “macking” without pleasure, I’d say she even has a little Jordan in her, too. What a gal. I can see how she would have been a blast for Elliot to hang out with back in college. It was even better to finally get a flashback scene for one of Elliot’s crazy memories. Hi all. Kara Howland here subbing for the vacationing Brie Hearn. I want to assure you that I am a huge fan of this show. In fact, I’ve been a loyal Scrubs fan from the beginning. I’m lying actually. For some reason I didn’t start watching this delightful comedy until about halfway through the inaugural season when all my friends badgered me into it. But I’ve been a loyal fan since then. Boy, funerals are a real downer, but Laverne’s laid the groundwork for a ton of good jokes tonight, besides providing some moments of introspection for the Sacred Heart staff. I think we can all admit to picturing our own funeral, but J.D.’s was more of a treat than I could have ever imagined. Nothing could be better than a choir singing Eddie Murphy’s “Party All the Time.” And then there was J.D.’s huggable corpse. Naturally, no fantasy of his would be complete without Dr. Cox’s long-awaited declaration of love. It was perfect. Back in real life, though, Laverne’s wasn’t too shabby either. Even I felt a wave of emotion when the preacher ended with, “I love you and there’s absolutely nothing you can do about it.” And he wasn’t even talking to me! I have to say, I’m feeling a little conflicted. I really didn’t want Laverne to die, but man, this was a fantastic episode. This show always manages to perfectly handle heavier material by mixing in much-needed humor at just the right moment. So I thought it was appropriate that during Carla’s goodbye to Laverne, she thanked her for helping her through her first bad patient experience by making her laugh. Moments like that can seem so small at the time, but they end up meaning so much in the long run. I’m glad Carla realized that. And I’m glad the writers do as well, because that’s what makes this show work so well.Now, on to the specifics. As much as I loved the earnest goodbyes of the main characters, the farewells from the supporting cast made up some of my favorite moments from the episode. Sigh…. Poor Laverne. She spent the whole episode defending her beliefs and her hope from Dr. Cox, and then this happens. Their argument was as interesting as it was contentious, though. I can imagine that working in a hospital really can shake your faith in the meaning of it all. So I was proud of Laverne for holding strong, both in the argument and her faith. Maybe something good will come from this after all. I think most fans knew her accident was coming, but it doesn’t make it any less sad. And I have to admit that I wasn’t loving Dr. Cox this week, either. We all know by now that he’s the crotchety doc with the heart of gold, but the past few weeks have been different. I just haven’t been seeing his usual end-of-episode redemption. Granted, it’s sometimes good to break from the episodic pattern; I just hope Cox comes around soon. I can’t believe I’m saying it, but how sweet is Kelso? We’ve always known about his war buddy whose name is tattooed on his unmentionables. And we know he’s come to accept and eventually embrace his son’s lifestyle. He has even softened his view on his wife over the years. But tonight was the icing on the cake. I’m not sure who this Maggie lady is (does anyone know, or am I missing something?), but his desire to treat her despite her lack of insurance is so un-Kelso, I’m left a bit speechless. Add to the mix that his way of helping her forced him to give into the scrub-thieving hospital staff, well that’s just downright touching. I also liked that we got to see a little bit more of Kelso outside the hospital, which doesn’t happen too often. Enid’s lunches of a stapler and a golf ball, and tuna fish on a sponge, were so charming. It leaves me torn over whether I’d ever want to meet her because I’m not sure she could live up ...

Whew! Private Dancer made it. I was sure he was a goner, but I’m glad to be wrong. Of course, we know this show won’t let us care about a patient who is going to have it easy, so it wasn’t all sunshine this week as Brian tried to commit suicide on the day of his hospital discharge. I find myself perennially surprised, though, how Scrubs can take a difficult and controversial topic such as suicide and still make it lighthearted and charming.Elliot’s suicide attempt has to be the funniest version possible. Floating in a lake in her bikini, only to be pulled out by the rowing team after they’ve beaten her in the head with their oars four times? Wow. Perhaps only she could have topped her lake efforts if she had followed through with putting her head in the oven. Luckily, heat on her head makes her have to pee, so Elliot was spared yet again. Thank goodness.Suicide wasn’t the only controversial issue touched upon this week. There was also the bit where J.D....
