February 1, 2007: Ben Franklin | Kate's Office Blog | 1/31/2007
Hello, this is Kate Flannery, the boozy redhead from the best show on TV, The Office. OK, maybe not the best show, but the best ensemble of a comedy series, according to the Screen Actors Guild. We won, fans. We won, and itfeels good and crazy, and I'm sore. (That award weighs 35 pounds!)I am here to talk about "Ben Franklin," the episode airing this week. There is a shower for Phyllis, but the big news is... Meredith yells at Angela!!!!! A new moody Meredith moment. Can you say alcoholic? I...

9:54: The Queen takes her throne. Helen Mirren beats out Meryl, Kate, Judi and Penélope and might as well have an award statue made to look like her by now. 9:57: Annette Bening wasted no time announcing the cast of Little Miss Sunshine for the final award. I want to thank Abigail Breslin for not repeating her pageant dance tonight. I want to thank Greg Kinnear for closing out the show with a few funny remarks ("Thanks, Volkswagen... "). And I want to thank the Screen Actors Guild for...

9:48: Reese always looks great. She could use a little lip color, though. Rachel McAdams looks adorable next to her boyfriend nominee Ryan Gosling. What's up with the pink streaks, though? Eh, I'll let it go.... They should have been together since The Notebook, so I'm glad those two found each other again.9:50: Forest Whitaker gets a standing ovation for his lead acting performance. In fact, I think Leo DiCaprio was the first to jump to his feet. Forest is so soft-spoken for someone who played...

9:38: The presenters are funny tonight. Cate Blanchett handled her bloop well, and Greg Kinnear is so comfortable up there, he could have had a beer in his hand.9:42: Jennifer Hudson is having one hell of a year. Wasn't she just standing in front of Simon Cowell, like, two days ago? Seems like it. Hey, if she can make an entire movie theater applaud a song she's singing on screen, I think that deserves a few awards. (At least that's what happened when I went to see Dreamgirls.)

9:33: Teri Hatcher, have a bagel tomorrow. Thanks. I wish I was a 24 junkie, because it just looks like an amazing show, but at this point, I'd have to hibernate for weeks (months?) just to catch up. 9:35: You know what, I cut the L-VAT wire. (Don't worry, Sabrina, I don't technically know what it is, either.) McDreamy, McSteamy and... McGoddess? Ellen, what is going on there? With an oversized collar and gigantic hoop earrings apparently come a disastrous speech. I think you just stuttered...

9:20: Steve Carell and Julia Louis-Dreyfus were a great presenting match. But it's all about "anal fissure" funnyman Hugh Laurie tonight. Another Brit giving another well-spoken acceptance. Sorry, I mean "smoooooth." I really think I could listen to him throw out the laughs for hours.9:23: Dennis Haysbert ends all the chuckles with the "in memoriam" moment. I'll miss Peter Boyle's "Holy crap" shouts and James Brown's crazy clothing choices. But back to the awards....

9:13: Does anyone else think immediately of St. Elmo's Fire when they see Emilio Estevez? No? Just me? All things serious... Bobby is filled with familiar faces but I'm not sure it'll take the win.9:15: Did Mary-Louise Parker borrow that dress from Mischa Barton? Nevermind. Christian Slater's eyebrows are now distracting me; doesn't he always look surprised?9:17: Of course Grey's picked the "va jay jay" clip. Congrats, Doctor Bailey! There's applause here in the office. She looks stunning!...

9:01: The history of Julie Andrews is still rolling, and I'm actually learning a lot. Did anyone else know about her books and donations? 9:04: Dick Van Dyke's bow tie is huge! But how can you not love him, right? Who better to present the life-achievement award to Julie than him? Eddie Murphy's right... the British actors do sound really distinguished when giving their speeches — Julie didn't even flinch. Patrick Dempsey looks bored, though. Sit up straight, doc, the camera is always...

8:55: Anne Hathaway always looks great when her hair is pulled back like that. But tonight is not all about Prada this and Prada that... the princess helps us honor Julie Andrews (adorable childhood photos!). Who can better stare into a man's eyes so passionately and sing her heart out? Mary Poppins will always hold a special place in my heart. Ah, but the hills are alive here.... The pizza has arrived! Now, where is Mary Tyler Moore....

8:47: Anika Noni Rose looks gorgeous! Why can't I get my curls to look like that? But she shouldn't bounce in that dress; if Dreamgirls takes best film, we may have to shield our eyes.

8:41: Apparently there's a lot more to voice-over acting than I knew. 8:43: Marcia Gay Harden's dress is... is... well, Sabrina just said, "I don't want to see that much of her boobs!" I second that. [Shiver] 8:45: A roar explodes for Eddie Murphy's win for supporting actor. "I feel goofy up here 'cause I don't be winnin' stuff." Ha. I'm just glad he's not sporting his Dreamgirls 'do.

8:32: The Mary Tyler Moore cast takes the stage, and Mary is looking as thin as the microphone. Is the pizza here yet? I'd be willing to donate my slice to her. Valerie Harper looks great, though! Rhoda, I knew you'd "make it after all." Best ensemble goes to The Office and Steve Carell appropriately heads up the thanks. I'll be waiting for Kate Flannery's blog this week about drinking it up post-win.

8:10: Betty is more like "America the beautiful" in that gorgeous green frock. Aw, so sweet of you to say, Forest. Elizabeth I is opening the show here, but Jeremy Irons looks tired, and I'm snoozing during his speech.8:19: McDreamy and Cristina take the stage to present Lead Actor in a TV Comedy. Love your dress, Sandra, but I'd rather see Dempsey in his scrubs. Congrats to Alec, really, but I'd like to give a special round of applause for all the foulmouthed insanity Jeremy Piven provides on...

8:00: Well, didn't we all want to know how these at-first ordinary people became actors who get to wear fancy clothes and walk on a special carpet? Thanks for your fourth grade memory, Vanessa. I'm Megan Cherkezian and I'm not an actor. But I am a blogger... let the awards begin.8:05: Ashton hands out the award for Lead Actress in a TV-movie/Mini Series to Helen Mirren. Sabrina and I both just noticed that during her eloquent speech, we had a full-on view of the award's butt. 8:08: Alan Arkin...

SAG's Got Spunk, Staging a Mary Tyler Moore Reunion | Today's News: Our Take | 1/25/2007
This just in:"The cast of the landmark TV-newsroom comedy, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, including Mary Tyler Moore, Edward Asner, Georgia Engel, Valerie Harper, Cloris Leachman, Gavin MacLeod and Betty White, will reunite to present the [award] for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series at the 13th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards."I imagine Ted Knight, if not Chuckles the clown, will be there in spirit, as well.TNT and TBS will simulcast the SAG Awards Sunday at 8 pm/ET.
