“Going Deep” dives into the history of undersea exploration, focusing on the distinguished career of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution's veteran submersible, “Alvin,” which is being retired after 40 years of service. Host Alan Alda recalls Alvin's exploits (including finding a lost nuclear bomb on the ocean floor), and also charts the development of its replacement, which will be able to dive to 21,000 feet. (Alvin's limit is 16,000.)
