Season 14, Episode 3 Future Car
First Aired: May 19, 2004
Fill 'er up---with hydrogen. Host Alan Alda test drives environmentally friendly cars of the future and even sniffs a tailpipe. His verdict: “It smells good!” More seriously, Alda also examines the hurdles standing in the way of cleaner automotive technology. A major one is consumer desire for speed and power, but another is the current difficulty of storing hydrogen. But once that problem is solved, “The game is going to change very, very fast,” predicts GM R&D chief Larry Burns.
