The Ricky Gervais Show

Ricky Gervais Show
9/8c HBO
Sometimes it's hard to figure out which is funnier: the bizarre ravings and expositions of Karl Pilkington; or the high-pitched cackle of Ricky Gervais in response. Fortunately, there's plenty of both in the second-season premiere, especially in a lengthy bit as Karl describes his pitch to a movie studio about a psychological thriller starring Rebecca De Mornay and...Clive Warren? From there it's on to Karl's diary, which includes entries about Australia, camping and humanitarian pursuits. — Joe Friedrich

It's no laughing matter when a man in a full clown costume murders the owner of a bakery. Normally, a clown would be easy to spot in New York, but when the CSIs arrive on the scene they discover numerous men dressed in identical clown outfits. Back in the office, things aren't any merrier when Jo's FBI agent ex-husband (David James Elliott) visits. — Tim Holland

Elsewhere, workplace dramas stagger Joe when one of his employees levels charges of sexual harassment against a colleague. Tony Hale and Lana Parrilla guest star. — Dean Maurer

Eureka

Eureka
9/8c Syfy
The fourth-season premiere finds the quirky town poised to celebrate its 60th anniversary. Sheriff Carter, still reeling from the departures of Zoe and Tess in the last episode, goes for a jog and runs into the enigmatic Dr. Trevor Grant (James Callis). Since this is Eureka we're talking about, you can go ahead and assume that Carter wasn't supposed to meet the man who played Baltar in Battlestar Galactica, and that something has gone very, very wrong while Carter was out jogging.
