Paint is used to lighten up a master bedroom with high vaulted ceilings and lots of windows; built-in furniture gets repurposed; rotted beams on the exterior need to be replaced, as does peeling and chipped cladding.
A dark kitchen gets replaced with something brighter, more modern and practical for renters; at the same time, Alexander creates a clearing in the woods and builds a solar shed to serve most of the cottage's energy needs.
