The Hockey Date Season 1, Episode 7

Ohh, little Samantha! Just as soon as she starts getting her memory back, her family and friends try pushing to get her back into the dating world. Despite there being an episode 2 weeks ago where Sam was trying to remember sex, this week it was all about finding that special someone whom Sam could connect with. With Andrea about to jet off to Rome with her new beau and Todd spending time with the kind but dimwitted Chloe, Sam felt the pressure to give her romantic life a kick start and who else to help her do it but her own mother. And thus begins another week of Samantha Who? As Sam brought Andrea over to her place to pick up some clothing, they interrupted Todd's date night with Chloe who had it in her head that Sam's amnesia also messed with her hearing and tried to sign everything she wanted to communicate. Wanting to make Todd jealous, Sam told him she too had big date plans for the night when, in fact, her plans were to play board games with Dena. While trying to weasel out of accepting the blue peg into her car in the game of Life, Sam's mother confronted her about being anti-social. Sam tried to express how she wouldn't make for the most interesting date considering she knows very little about herself but her mother continued to insist she get out and play the game. The next day as Sam returned home, she literally stumbled upon a potential suitor (Kevin) who was hired to do some work on her house. Kevin ( Eddie Cibrian) quickly learned that he was hired more as an escort than a handyman when he and Sam were left alone to a candle-lit dinner. As Kevin started to reveal a bit about himself, the only thing Sam could reveal was her interest in hockey. As luck would have it, a mutual love for hockey created an instant bond between Sam and Kevin. The only problem being that Sam couldn't actually remember anything about the sport. When Kevin showed up to her work the next day with tickets to a game, Sam needed a crash-course from her ex turned best buddy, Todd. While Todd and Sam made their way to the stadium to learn about hockey, Dena and Andrea met up at the bar after Andrea's guy left for Rome without her. Without Sam there to listen to her narcissistic rant, Andrea was forced to turn to Dena for support in what may have been the funniest scene of this series so far. Sam tried to buy her and Todd tickets to the hockey game but was turned down when she learned she was banned from the stadium. In a flashback to old Sam, we learn Sam was banned from the stadium for faking a disability to get free tickets. She and Todd instead hit up a local sports bar and started to discuss their past relationship. Todd filled in the blanks for Sam as to where her watch and the scar on her toe came from. Meanwhile, Dena continued to help Andrea get over her rejection by insisting that her man just couldn't handle a strong woman. Back at the sports bar, Sam and Todd's new-found friendship grew over a game of darts when Kevin showed up for a post-game drink. Sam decided it best to come clean to him about everything and hope that he'd still be interested even with all her baggage. He was. When Sam finally caught up with Andrea and Dena later in the night, the girls were wasted while pretending to be Canadian flight attendants. How ironic that just when Sam realizes it's best to honest, her friends go and do the exact opposite. I think I'm gonna like this Dena/Andrea pairing. At this point, I think it goes without saying that I enjoyed the episode. I tend to say that every week despite enjoying some episodes more than others. This one was right up there due in large part to Eddie Cibrian. He's been completely entertaining in both his guest spot on here and on Dirty Sexy Money a few weeks back. Also, I tend to crack up at just about everything that comes out of Andrea's mouth and this week she totally made up for the brief scenes we got with Jean Smart. I gotta say, I'm also now kinda rooting for Sam and Todd to stay friends. Though I think they'd make a sweet couple, I really don't want this show to take the Ross/Rachel path that so many sitcoms tend to do these days. They worked really well together in this week's episode even though both characters had their own romances starting up and pairing them up too soon may spoil the nice balance we got going on right now. And as I also mentioned last week, I'm really liking how they're developing Dena's character. As she's been hanging around with Sam and Andrea she's become much less of a pushover and its made her character a lot more likable. Memorable Moments: The definition of "going for a run" Sam's Shampoo: Comfort Inn and Meeting Center brand "I did not raise you to use amnesia as an excuse!" Sam's Australian accent when being friendly with Todd The return of Sam's assistant "This is why I can't go out on dates. Because 1 dinner and I'm just sweating and exhausted from trying to make some stranger think I'm something that I'm not." Andrea's response: "Sweetheart, that is a date!" "Get this, he's gonna take me to this factory that makes nothing but cheesecake!" Favorite Line: Andrea and Dena's touching moment: "Don't hug me! Just rub my arm." show less
