The Girlfriend Season 1, Episode 10

Whuttup TV Guiders? It feels like forever since I've blogged anything that didn't involve the ridiculousness that is Tyra Banks. It's good to be back to a scripted show. When we last saw Sam, she got dumped by her first post-amnesia boyfriend. After getting dumped, Sam realized she still had feelings for Todd. I'm hoping the writers don't jump right into this because that's the type of stuff that can ruin a show this early on. Now for my recap: This week Sam continued to question her relationship with Todd. After some time apart, the two happened to run into each other on the street while Sam was trying out her jump-roping skills. Todd seemed glad to see her and suggested they get together soon. Later that evening while Sam's mom tried to convince her to have a makeover night with her, Todd invited Sam over for a chilli dinner. Ecstatic by the thought of possibly rekindling her relationship with Todd, Sam prettied herself up and went over to her old apartment. Once there, Todd's true intentions came out when he revealed that he wanted to invite his current girlfriend Chloe to move in with him. This sent Sam running to her relationship guru, Andrea, who advised that she slip on her old Sam shoes and resort back to her old schemes for getting unavailable men. Cue the flashback to "the wine trick" where Sam told some poor girl that her boyfriend just sent over a bottle of wine to her table. Delightfully evil! However, just make things nice and balanced the board president for Sam's building showed up at the coffee shop to let her know that subletting is forbidden in her building. Score one for the good girl! Sam was eager to break the news to Todd and Chloe that they'd be getting a new roommate. Just when Sam thought she had the upper-hand, she realized that living with her ex and his new girlfriend wouldn't be as fun as she'd expected. It was all private jokes about monopoly and stuffed koala bears which was enough to make Sam regret her decision. But the situation got even worse for her when Todd and Chloe decided to call it a night and Chloe dragged her boy toy to the bedroom. Poor Sam! Meanwhile, at the Newly household Sam's mom was so desperate for some bonding time that she adopted Dena as her second daughter just to have someone to do makeovers with. As Regina convinced Dena to do makeovers, Andrea convinced Sam to take her advice to get rid of Chloe. Her little plan entailed planting herpes cream, an ovulation chart, and an ovulation kit in the bathroom of the apartment. Back at the Newly house, Dena and Regina drunkenly revealed their deep dark secrets to one another while made up to look like 80's pop stars. At the height of their drunken state, they decided to TP the house of the woman who beat Regina in a beauty pageant during her younger years. As Sam tried to get some sleep at her apartment, she rolled over to find Chloe staring down at her with a warning that she better not try to steal Todd away. Wow...quite the psycho! I'm guessing the herpes cream won't be necessary. The next morning Sam woke up to a homemade breakfast prepared by Chloe. When Todd and Sam had a moment to speak in private, he confronted her for threatening Chloe. As Sam denied the allegations and tried to tell the truth, Chloe ran in showing her butchered stuffed koala which she also pinned on Sam. Let the games begin! When the sun rose over the Newly house, Dena and Regina awoke to the drunken mess they had created the night before. Dena drew the turtle on the wall that had gotten her rejected from the art school that accepts everyone and Regina found a giant ceramic bunny rabbit with a full coat of lipstick painted on it. Dena tried to thank Regina for a lovely evening but was quickly shushed and sent home. Back at Sam's apartment again, Sam set her own attempt at an evil scheme into motion. She pretended that she and Todd had just finished rekindling their romance when Chloe came home. The plan seemed to be a success until Todd walked in the front door. When the group finally decided to discuss the issue and Sam got Chloe to confess to butchering her own stuffed bear, Chloe admitted she was just jealous of how beautiful and intelligent Sam is. Sam decided to finally leave her apartment once and for but not before trying once more for Todd by claiming she found Chloe's ovulation kit. After a brief encounter with her all-knowing doorman, Sam returned home broken-hearted once again seeking the comfort of her hungover mother. Overall, I was a little disappointed with the return of Samantha Who. Don't get me wrong, there were a number of great one-liners but I think I just really want Sam to move on from Todd. As I mentioned at the beginning of this blog, I feel like if they get together too soon it will ruin the show. I'd love see her interact with other men before they return to the Sam/Todd relationship. I really only got enjoyment out of Jean Smarts hilarious lines to Dena. I would of liked a bit more Andrea though. So what'd you all think? Was the long-awaited return as good as where we left off? Did the psycho-Chloe storyline work for you? Let us know! Memorable Moments: -Andrea throwing Biscotti crumbs at the coffee guy for mispronouncing her name -Regina Newly convincing Dena to stay and do makeovers: "Your mother's dead and my daughter is out gallivanting, you see how we're both suffering? You were a very special little girl...and that wonder woman costume you wore throughout fifth grade proved it! So what kind of wine does Wonder Woman drink...Cabernet or Tequila?" Quote of the week: "Now you have to spill a secret about yourself. Something fun...like a dream that was crushed!"
