Rodney runs into a number of hazards when he's invited to play in a celebrity golf tournament featuring John Schneider. John Ratzenberger also appears, channeling his Cliff Clavin alter ego from “Cheers.”
“I think you're ready for bigger and better things,” declares Rodney's ardent agent, Amy (Beth Littleford). He just doesn't know that means her until Amy starts coming on to him in a couple of very close encounters at her office.
The maxim “Those who can't do, teach” rings true when Rodney, already in Trina's doghouse, gives advice to his lovelorn son Jack. Elsewhere, Carl is excited about his new girlfriend. Carl: Mac Davis. Sandy: Mary Gordon Murray.
Rodney hustles to make arrangements to bury a not-so-great-aunt he barely knew, but has to dig deep to find anything nice to say about her. Dale: Geoff Pierson. Henry: Stephen Rockwell. Rennette: Patricia Belcher.
Rodney returns after two months on the road, but it's anything but home sweet home when he finds that his boys have changed and Trina has new friends. Ed: Ben Bowden. Arlene: Kit Pongetti. Gerald Bob: Jon Reep.
It's a blue Yule for Rodney as he and Trina fight over his tacky tree decoration: an angel that lights up and delivers a Christmas message. On top of that, Trina's dad is going broke and may end up moving in. Carl: Mac Davis.
A gay club hires Rodney, who's a big hit with jokes about guys “hangin' out.” And “campin'.” But Trina asks if they know he likes women. Whoops. “They think I'm gay!” exclaims Rodney, who now thinks he's being deceitful.
A cow moooves in with Rodney, who's the owner of a real side of beef thanks to the chicanery of Plumber Dave. Elsewhere, Trina gets a pink slip from her dad (Mac Davis), who says business is bad. But there are other circumstances at play here.
Jack enters puberty and gets a birds-and-bees talk from his dad. Make that two chats; the first is a flub. Meanwhile, Barry faces his own manhood issue over a glandular swelling in his breast area and he and Rodney shop for a bra.
Flashbacks to Jack's birth recall tempestuous times between Rodney and a pregnant Trina, including a false alarm at the hospital and an eventful night at a golf-course driving range. Carl: Mac Davis. Gerald Bob: Jon Reep.
In the cheeky, second-season opener, Rodney gets religion, thanks to a firebrand preacher (Casey Sander) he seeks to please by doing chores at the church and hosting a bible group for teens. Jack: Oliver Davis.
