Supernova's Brooke Burke Rocks Out with a New Baby

Brooke Burke and actor David Charvet by Gregg DeGuire/

Brooke Burke, the host of CBS' Rock Star: Supernova, had a baby boy on Wednesday, according to People. The child is the second for Burke and fiancé David Charvet, who previously starred on Baywatch, and the first son for Burke. In addition to the new baby, the pair has a 1-year-old daughter, Rain, together, and Burke has two other children with ex-husband Garth Fisher.Burke and Charvet announced their engagement — and their little rock star on the way — in August. In the spirit of her pregnancy, Burke recently launched a website with products for other expecting moms, called Baboosh Baby, which hawks "tauts," belly wraps that she says help get ladies' bellies back into shape once they've given birth. Even hetero expecting dads might like the site: Burke models all the tauts herself. — Anna DimondRelated:• It's a Rock Star: Superbaby! read more

My wife and I are both fans ...

Question: My wife and I are both fans of Bon Jovi and the Bee Gees, so we were really disappointed by the lousy versions of the songs that the band played for the contestants on American Idol. Is there any way they could hire a decent house band? Have there been any complaints from the contestants about how bad the band is? Week in and week out, we constantly complain. We very much enjoyed both seasons of Rock Star and are really big fans of that show's house band. The AI band can't seem to keep up with any of the contestants. Even Sanjaya was better than the band behind him! Answer: It probably wouldn't be politic for the Idol contestants to complain openly about the musicians they work with every week, but this season, it seems at least a few contestants (especially Blake) have become more proactive in working out their own arrangements. (You can't really blame the band for how badly Blake mangled those poorly chosen Bee Gees songs.) To me, the whole package is in keeping with the ... read more

From First to Worst: An All-Star Reversal

Rob and Amber, it was nice knowing you. Not. Perhaps it’s unseemly to gloat, even when it’s the gloaters who become the goats. But really, how can you resist rejoicing when smug, painfully overexposed reality junkies Rob and Amber are shown the door, coming in last on the mat behind (get this) even the hapless Charla and Mirna, who had the bull’s-eye on them throughout Sunday’s episode of The Amazing Race: All-Stars. (If they’re not ousted next week, it will be another minor miracle.)For those who study things like how reality-show episodes are put together, one might have predicted Romber’s downfall this week, given their interview moment early on when Rob fake-protested that he wasn’t arrogant or cocky, then noted, “I’m not even close to my prime.” Well, certainly not when it comes to spelling, he isn’t.Rob and Amber are unquestionably reality all-stars. I keep expecting one or the other to appear on CBS’ Rock Star this s... read more

Rock Star Supergroup Is Kinda Renamed

Per a settlement reached by the SoCal punk group Supernova and the makers of CBS' Rock Star: Supernova, the band to be made up of competition winner Lukas Rossi, Tommy Lee, Jason Newsted and Gilby Clarke will now be known as Rock Star Supernova. (Yes, minus the colon. After all, only real men can handle the rename-with-colon thing.) read more

Rock Star's Supernova Ordered to Change Name

According to, a San Diego judge ruled on Tuesday that the producers of CBS' Rock Star: Supernova must come up with an alternate name for the band composed of Tommy Lee, Jason Newsted, Gilby Clarke and the winner being crowned tonight. Last month, Supernova, a punk trio from Orange County, California, filed for a preliminary injunction halting the Rock Star quartet from performing or recording as Supernova if the band fails to modify its name. (Sorry, Tommy, I already have dibs on "Supernova: Our Take.") Yesterday's ruling acknowledged that "the marks are identical, the parties operate in very similar or identical markets, the [name] Supernova is distinctive and therefore strong, and there is evidence of actual confusion in the market." The group now-never-to-be-known-as Supernova is slated to launch a tour December 31 in Las Vegas, complete with $85 concert shirts that say "?" read more

September 12, 2006: Paula Abdul in the House

So what was with the sucking-up to Paula Abdul? We saw her four times in this show, Dave Navarro had to point her out and Dilana had to touch her. It wasn't like Robert Plant was sitting in the audience read more

What do you think of ...

Question: What do you think of MyNetwork's format of airing two telenovelas, with new episodes every night (Fashion House and Desire for the first 13 weeks)? I would never watch these two particular serials because they look dreadful, but I'm wondering if the format could be successful if done well. Traditional wisdom is that people aren't devoted enough to keep up with serialized dramas, an argument I have never believed — after all, who's watching all those soap operas? But I think Americans tend to be out of the house in the evenings more perhaps than people in nations where telenovelas are wildly popular. Still, in the age of TiVo and the Internet, I wonder if it could catch on. I would welcome a show that had a new episode every night if it was really good. I hate having to wait a week between installments sometimes. What do you think are the chances that we would see a quality telenovela-like serial on any of the networks or cable channels in the future? Answer: You're right that read more
