England's West Country, home to quaint Cotswold villages, is toured. Included: Wells, which is England's smallest cathedral town; the New Age capital of Glastonbury, with its legends of the Holy Grail and King Arthur; and Stonehenge and Avebury.
A visit to the Italian countryside features an agriturismo (farmhouse inn); the process of making prosciutto and pecorino cheese; and a hike into deep and ancient wine cellars. The tour also spotlights Assisi, the hometown of Saint Francis.
A tour of Saxony, part of the former East Germany, stops in two of ithe region's great cities: Dresden, home to the opulent palaces and art treasures of the Wettin dynasty; and Leipzig, which was home to Johann Sebastian Bach for his final 27 years.
The Season 9 premiere begins in Germany, where the port city of Hamburg and historic sights of Martin Luther and the Reformation (Erfurt, Wittenberg and Wartburg Castle) are visited. Also: the wine-loving capital of Franconia, Würzburg.
